I put on the borla cat back exhuast today on my MP3.

This exhuast is very quite except for one RPM range when it is either resonatong or tapping a heat sheild. It did not line up 100% and is very close to the stock heat shield over the gastank but that may be my lake of experience in installing exhuasts.

This thing is very quite, although I have been driving without a muffler for 2 weeks.

The first think I noticed is that it has an indent for the stock gasket unlike the Bosal which did not.

Its definitly not the show peice a JIC is but I like it all the same. Not to mentoin the extra $200 still in my pocket :D.
I wish the tip lined up a little differently but thats it.

Enjoy!

It feels fine, very quite. The power is no different as I have 2 weeks of no muiffler to compare it too.

The piping size is 2.25"

The exhuast is definitly hitting a heat shield so I need to readjust it. ONe adjusted it wil be fine.

Does it sound like it has a "BUZZING" sound to it when its pinned?

If you are refering to the exhuast note, no, it is very quite I can hear the turbo spooling far louder then teh exhuast.

What "model" is the muffler? I was thinking about buying a Borla but I want something louder. . .if yours is that quiet.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Borla

Nothing (from what I have seen) has ever lined up!

It's quite ridiculous that you pay for a quality exhaust system and get less than that.

If I can not allign it then I will return it or make the shop I bought it from slightly bend it. However, form the origninal install which I rushed, I am all but positive it can be re-adjusted away from the heat shield which will actualy better position the tip. The one problem is our terribly soggy stock exhuast hangers allow it to bounce around too much. Looks like another order to from kartboy on the horizon.

I realigned the exhuast and the tip looks alot better and no problems with heat shield vibrations. Its all good :D.

Enjoy!

Not to bring up toooo old a post, but I had asked whether anyone had this, then I found the search button!!

What I want to know is if the bends, the over axle hump are the same on the MP3/Sedans as it is on the P5. I know the tip is too long, but I could easily have a shop shorten that a bit if the rest of the exhaust is the same.

I want something only slightly louder than stock, and hopefully this is it. It also doesn't involve a giant 4.5" tip.

??

you could have them hack up the tip and weld it up for you, but it may be hard to keep the same height and position of the tip relative to the bumper cut-out. it also depends if there is enough extra room on the tip to chop off and have it not stick out on a p5...

ask SRMotorsports if their exhaust is for a p5: http://www.srmotorsports.com/protege.htm

the tip is very similar

i know it doesnt sound like a weedeater, protege engines just dont sound like honda engines...for some reason (i guess cuz its borla) i wanna imagine it sounding like a v8

On my car its quiter then the stock exhuast or the Bosal was. The turbo supresses alot though.
This thing is a b**** to line up so extra room is not somehting that comes to mind. I had to rip off the main heat shield and bend it to get this to stop knocking around.

That is definitly for the P5, but how does it sound? I guess I'll have to do another search. ( For the SR Motorsports )

I doubt the Borla will sound like a V8, but I hope it will not sound like a regular import exhaust. I don't mind throaty, or deep, or even load at WOT, but its the cruising speed drone that I can't stand. I want something only slightly louder than stock.

Too bad Greddy is redesigning, and the 4.5" tip they put on there.

Thanks 1st MP3, what I'm hoping is that the supressed sound on your Turbo car would equate to just a minor increase on the non forced induction cars. Its quieter than your stock? Is it a different ( more pleasing ) tone though?

Too bad about fitment issues, that sucks.

The car becomes much quiter with the turbo in line so it is now quiter then it was stock becuase of that fact. i have no clue how the exhuast would sound on a NA car.

HOLY s***! LEARN HOW TO SPELL "QUIET" PLEASE! I'm sorry, but it's too much to handle. The first one or two times it happened, I let it go as a typo - it's easy enough, but this is rediculous! "Quiter" is one who quits, that is he stops or gives up. "Quite" is pronounced "kwite" and is an intensifier: "Johnnie did quite well on his spelling test." "Quieter" means less loud. Sound it out.
