boost psi question

Now I am new to the tuner game seeing as I have only had my MSP 2 weeks but today I noticed something weird. I usually run around 7-8 psi or stock psi on my turbo but today I noticed that my turbo was going up close to 10psi. I am usually a careful driver, I don't really rev real high and barely peak out my boost but would a warm day cause me to boost higher? I replaced the stock vacume tubes going to the stock bpv with some colored blue tubes but they seemed to be a little too flimsy to support any suction so I went out and bought some 5/32X30 vacume tubing and now my boost is topping out at around 10psi. I was wondering if the 5/32 line is big enough or does the size of the vac line increse the amount of boost you recieve. Any help is welcome , I did a search and couldn't find any other posts about this. Also , I just got a samco hot side intercooler pipe and a forge BoV in the mail but haven't installed it yet , was wondering if that may help clear up the raise in the boost levels.

That would not change the boost levels unless there was a major leak in them.

Stock boost is usually 6-7 so there is either a boost controller spliced into the vac line to the wastegate actuator or they replaced the wga with an ATP that would also bump up the boost. You would want some supporting mods for raised boost especially if you are hitting 10=trouble to come soon!!

The wga was a common problem for these cars if they get a tear in the diaphram and spike real high. The common thing was to just replace them with the ATP since the oem was not sold separately and only came with the turbo.

actually the vac line from the intake manifold has a t section with one end going to the stock bpv and the other to the wastegate, there is no boost controller on the car. When I first started getting the problem today I stopped at an auto store and checked the vac lines and it looked like the blue vac lines I had on at the time we sucking themselves closed so I got some more sturdy vac lines in the auto store and when I floor the car it goes up to 10 psi. mods I have on my car right now are injen cai modded to be sri and a new exhaust.

also I rarely go fast enough or floor the car enought to where the boost tops out but today I did it and I noticed the incresed boost level. I know it was never that high before , thats why I got worried.

10psi is borderline for BOOM and if there was no boost controller they do have the ATP wastegate on there. There are alot of guys running 10psi or more but with ALL supporting mods.

It is the luck of the draw for you at 10. Midpipe upgrade and upgraded IC should be on your list ASAP!

I actually found the problem, seems the nozzle that my Bpv valve connects to on my hot side pipe snapped off . That is where the leak is coming from so tommorow when I get home I will install my hard hot side pipe I just got in the mail and that should remedy that problem. Also I will keep that car from boosting over 5 psi till then so it shouldn't be too much of a problem and I will also try and find a way to temporarily seal the pipe till tommorow just in case.

Well I put on the new hot side pipe but I am still getting 10 PSI . I don't know where I am getting the PSI boost from. I am going to go today and get a boost regulator so maybe I can limit my boost that way and maybe pick up a cold pipe and install my forge BoV. also my care damn near stalls when I idle. it will sit around 500 rpm then dip to about 100 and sometimes even stall out all together.

A boost controller can only raise boost. It can't go lower than what the wga spring is rated for. As far as the stalling goes search for "MAF relocated" This is a common problem with all turbo proteges. Where is your vac at idle, you may have a small leak.

Keep an eye on your boost level. Your wastegate actuator is probably on its way out seeing how you used to run 7psi and now you're at 10psi.

also look closer at your tach, it starts at 500, below that it is off. you're probably idling close to 750 then drops to 500 and stalls. And it sounds like you actuator is going bad. Disconnect the line going to it at the tee on the side of the block (follow the bpv vac source to find the tee) blow in that and it should resist every bit of it, if you can push any air through then the diaphram is going. Easy enough fix, just takes $75 and patience.

well , not sure if this is it but I found I had a leak in my new exhaust right before the cat that I will go get fixed tommorowm not sure if that would cause my car to almost stall or not.

well I checked the WGA by blowing into the tube connected to it and it was like blowing air threw a straw so I just ordered one to replace it. hope that will get rid of the stalling and what not.

it will def. equal out your boost. if you were boosting 5 before though expect to boost around 7 if you got the ATP WGA, kep us up to date, let me know if you have any questions installing the WGA.

Will do . Aside from it being a pain in the ass to screw it in it looks pretty easy to change out.

just watch out for the c clip on the actuator arm, i had no problems with mine, but I have heard of a lot of people snapping them and being up the creek without a replacement. Some people have gotten extra c clips ahead of time, I choose to take my chance and took my time it went easy enough.
