Boost not noticable until very high RPM

i just changed gas to 93 at shell, and i havent heard the noise yet... i drove the car up to around 4500 rpms, and didnt hear anything. i was somewhat afraid to go further from what i had read earlier in this thread.... maybe it was just the gasoline that i got earlier? i will drive it again tommorow and see if i can hear the noise, if not then maybe it was just the gas that i used.... should i get it checked out anyways?

Definitely get it checked out. If the pinging damaged the motor in any way there'll be a record about it in case something goes wrong in the future

what exactly should i tell the dealership... i dont know if i can exactly replicate the sound whenever i want. i guess i should just ask them to check it out for damage and check it out for something that would cause pinging? my car is feeling really strange when im driving it now. when im at 3 rpm it feels like im at like 5.5 rpm. overall feel i guess could just be described as "crunchy".

took it to the dealer.... they said nothing was wrong with it, big surprise.... damn that pisses me off though

YEH, i never took mine cus i figred thats what they would say.....i still havent recieved my sub or sway bar bushings....suposdly the super tight sport suspension is makin the cluckin sound i hear over every ****** bump ?!?! just make sure u keep shell or sunoco in ur tank.....ever since my dyno runs were i saw my car lean out at 5500 to redline i have used shell or sunoco and im still driving fine.....also dont boost more until u get some sort of ems :)...good luck...and dont worry..if ur stock...and something happens....thats y u paided for a warrenty

i suppose i would be able to deal with this but it just seems like the pinging did some damage from the way my car feels when i drive it... i dunno kind of hard to explain i might take it to a car shop and get it checked out instead of the dealer.... not to mention the overall feel of the car whenever i let off of the clutch it like clicks on the way up...

true that is why u pay for a warranty but still i would rather have peace of mind

BE CAREFUL not to be too paranoid that u are hearing "the clickin" ask a friend to listen..one that hasnt drivin in ur car lately etc....my nephew jumps in my car every so often and i or he havent heard the pingin return....im plannin to change my plugs soon and get the mpi tuner this summer....

yeah thats true, when you listen for something sometimes u hear things....
i will get someone else to drive my car though and see what they think...

the clicking i was refering to though wasnt the pinging click, my clutch makes a clicking noise when i let off of it - dont know if that is related to the subject in any way

well i sure as hell can hear my car ping...its pretty noticeable, but shouldn't be happening at stock boost.

i honestly havent heard my ping lately..if it consistently accures i would go to a dealer and tell a mechanic to come with u and u drive the car and show him.....

i want to push my car hard and see what happens, but im afraid if i got to redline my car will explode or something

i've already told the dealer about the pinging...long story short: they don't really care enough to look into it..

thats some focke dup s*** law......only thing i can offer is get a ems...im goin corksport of mpi this summer hopefully

i guess if they dont want to look into pinging they are basically setting themselves up to replace some engines? seems pretty dumb to me

I kinda agree. They should do something about it. BUT, what does an engine cost Mazda? Maybe $5000 tops? if they lose 30 MSP engines, that's $150,000. It's probably cheaper for them to replace engines rather than put a whole bunch of cash into R&D for a new / improved ECU program, get it emissions tested and legal in all 50 states and Canada, and get fixes out to all the dealers for a reflash... Not that I agree with it - it sucks from a customer service standpoint, but I can see the money sense of replacing a motor over finding a fix...

Also remember the limited quantity of these cars that are out there, and to lose 30 engines at stock settings seems pretty unlikely to me.

the pinging is not consistent, but it occurs often enough to rule out a bad tank of gas, or other random factor. it usually happens more often on hot days. i checked my plugs and they didn't look too bad, but they looked like they had some signs of detonation. i tried to re-gap them to .032 instead of what they were at like .036, but those damn iridium plugs are hard to gap, and i broke the electrode off one of them. so i put back in the stock platinum plugs which were gapped at .034 i believe. they seem fine at stock boost, but i'm sure if i turned it up they would not be as good. i dunno, i'm running out of ideas and get no help from the dealer. i think its something more major than spark plugs, spark plug gap, type of gas, etc, etc...something that i'm not going to be able to fix myself...
