Electronic Boost Gauges use a sending unit to transmit pressure readings electronically to the gauge. Mechanical Boost gauges have a vacuum hose run directly to the gauge, and the vacuum/boost is read mechanically.
Modern day sending units are fairly reliable, and accurate, so a good electronic gauge might be more accurate, because the hose on a mechanical gauge can get bent, or pinched.
My hose to my sending unit is about 8" long, so there's little room for any hose bending/pinching., also running a wire to the dash is much easier than keeping a hose free of bends, or pinches.
