Boost gauge light wiring?

Just wondering where people wire the power and ground for a boost gauge normally? Gauge will be mounted either in the vent (vent pod) or on top of the steering column.

Lots of places you can do it. My gauge is on the steering column and I tapped into the radio harness, because it was close, easy to get to, and the wiring diagrams are easy to find.

I used a tiny (I don't know what it's called) thing I used to add a little spade connector on the small fuse for radio in the passenger side fuse box. You can get these connectors at Radio Shack. I grounded the gauge on a metal frame/plate thing for the center console. Take the panel off the right side of the drivers foot area, you'll see the bolts & the metal frame thing. I unbolted & grounded there. Oh, & I have the vent gauge pod by the way. I use to have my gauge on the steering coulmn, but the vent pod cleaned it up very well. Just becareful & take your time if you go the vent pod route. I had to replace the vacuum line cuz it folded & kept on folding at the same spot. It's best if you give it extra hose behind the gauge & hide it in the vent to prevent this when your pushing the gauge into the pod.

Battery for constant 12v source (with a 3a fuse wired in) and tapped into my cigarette lighter for the switched circuit...

So, pardon my ignorance, but you ran the positive wire directly to the battery, the switched circuit (guessing it's a third wire?) to the cigarette lighter, and grounded to the frame? Is this correct?

Sorry, I'm just not that great with electrical stuff. Why wouldn't the gauge stay lit all the time if it was run directly from the battery? Sorry for the noob question.
