BMW M Coupe 2001 ... a good investment?

I am trying to decide what my next car will be and I have recently stumbled upon the 2001 bmw M coupe. This thing seems very badass as it has 315 HP and 251 ft lbs of torque. Needless to say it has enough pwer, but this thing is just about the sexiest little car i have ever seen.

What is everyone opinions on this car as opposed to the 350z and rx-8?

SO:

2001 M Coupe
2004 RX-8
2003 350z

Which one?

If I were you, I'd get the rx-8...it's comfy, quick, handles great and has more room than a 350z. I'd stay away from the M because of maintenance as jersey_emt said.

Went autoXing over break in an 01 m coupe. Very nice pick up, but I still think I would prefer an 8. However, I think the M would hold value better.

high maintenance cost is something i am willing to live with. I think it would be peppier than an rx-8 and hold its own ona road corse just as well as an rx-8.

plus it is sexy as s***!

Indeed, I think it comes down to personal preference and held value.

ps, I am still interested in the takata, but can't afford it at the moment. Feel free to sell it, but if you don't I can pick it up sometime for sure.

I think your choice is already made then.

so are maintenance costs the only downside to the coupe? othen than practicality?

gas mileage is ok i have heard.

My three series wasn't near as fun as my protege on handling. Don't get me wrong, your talking about an M coupe, but the bmw doesn't have as tight turning and is heavy.

i would pick da 8 my main concern aside from "those things r in the shop all the time" I would be weary of any used "M" model. Just for the fact that they get ragged the flip out...I think the M is sexy but still too Z3 (AKA Middleaged women and bald old guys! At least in NOVA) for my tatse. I dunno how it is in MI but lots of people own BMW's here and it just seems played out.. Unfortunately!! The 8 is very sexy. Plus very few things top the fun of 9000 RPMs and a 1:1 gear ratio in 3rd WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'd take the Z over either of them, actually, the G35 Coupe over all 3.
1. G35
2. Z
3. M
4. 8

I'd take the m coupe. It's on my top wanted car list.

Mmmm So hot!

It reminds me of the car from Ambiguously gay duo. But still my favorite.

From what I've seen, it does very well on the track.

If you don't want the extra room the RX-8 offers, I say get a Z. I drove my buddy's Z w/ cats and intake and it was badass. The clutch engagement is VERY high but ripping through the 6spd is fun.
The MCoupe is a sweet german machine though, go test drive one :)

YEAH M COUPE! It's a car I was wanting before I got the speed, and if one came available for the right price when I turn 25 in a year I would be ALL OVER IT!
I love the coupe it is sexy, I'd be ok with you jumping the MSP ship if you went for the M Coupe!!!

cars are not investments, they are liabilities....all they do is depreciate and cost you money

ummmm, you guys are saying the M has high maint, and then tell him to buy a rotary? LOL

Anyways, I'd say get the M coupe.

1. I don't like the Z, it's a little funny looking
2. The 8 is gorgeous, but only when it has ground effects, spoiler and so on. And it's a little on the small side. Rotary is a completely different beast, make sure you know what your getting into.
3. The M coupe is and shall be one of my all time fav. cars. I would give up my speed in a second for one.

How many miles on this M coupe? if there are a lot, and it came down to used M3 with lots of miles, or new car. that changes things, and I'd get the 8.
