Bluetooth problems with Galaxy Y

:
was 175ps Mazda CX-5 Auto AWD Sport Nav, now 190ps DSG Tiguan 4M
I'm having intermittent problems with my phone, sometimes its connecting other times not, and when it fails its almost impossible to get it to connect unless I turn the phone off/on, or sometimes the car has to be turned of.
The phone Galaxy Y is on the UK compatibility list as ok.

we have a old Nokia that connects every time.

Anyone got any ideas, I have paired the phone now three times.

Also I have the message tab greyed out with both phones, suggestions welcome.

Hi xtrailman

I can't help you with the intermittent BT issue with the Galaxy Y, but I do know (I think!) something about the greyed out message tab. Bluetooth contains a number of separate components that allows one device to talk to another and control separate functions. For SMS messaging to work between the CX-5 and the phone, both devices need to run Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile). The CX-5 does, but almost certainly your Nokia and possibly the Galaxy Y do not. Therefore even with a working Bluetooth connection, the message tab stays greyed out on the CX-5, as the phones do not respond to the CX-5 request for message control, because they do not run BT MAP.
From my research into why my Nexus 4 does not work with the messaging tab, I've discovered that Android (which I assume your Galaxy Y runs) does not include MAP as standard, but some phone manufactures add it on themselves, such as HTC have done with the Wildfire S, which works with messaging in my CX-5 - well sort of, as it displays the messages OK, bit from the wrong sender!
Samsung may also have done this to the Galaxy Y, in which case, turning on MAP should be an option on your phone, as it is on the HTC Wildfire S, under Wireless & Networks>Bluetooth Settings> Advanced Settings> Message Access. Perhaps the menu structure is similar on the Galaxy Y ?

Having said all that, even with a fully working Bluetooth MAP connection, I'm not convinced that dealing with sms messages whilst driving is a good plan, so I'm not too bothered that my Nexus 4 doesn't support it.

I sympathise with the intermittent connection though, sorry I can't help with that.

Thanks KJO

I'm I the only one having problems?

You are not the only one. I have a Motorola Razr M with Verizon and when connecting to make a call I get a LOUD static noise over the speakers and then it won't connect. Doesn't happen when not connected to BT. I should call Mazda, but I am getting tired of calling because of ALL the Tomtom issues I am forever calling on.

Kelseyx, can you try to connect to mazda's bluetooth and ensure you have the wifi off?
I ahve heard that some android phones disconnect bluetooth due to some interference with the wifi.
I did with mine (galaxy s3) because i heard the static noise when it disconnected from blueooth and since i did the trick i think it has never disconnected again

It is a known bug on androids. For once it is not Mazda issue, but they should try before announcing the compatibility of the devices

Install top rated virus checker today and ran it (Tustgo), no virus found.

I think you phone had an virus, please scan it from any good antivirus, It will really help you.

Hi Xtrail,

where do you get the message tab? I have a HTC one. under bluetooth advances settings you have an option for message access. So my phone definitely supports it. I contacted htc tech support and the one plus one mini have it.

Its just a tab on the phone screen, mines there but greyed out.

I'm still having connection problem with the Galaxy Y.

Does your phone connect every time?

I've run a virus checker and found no issues, at present awaiting a reply from Samsung.

IMO the ICE package in this car is complete crap.

No I didn't, but I've had the same advise elsewhere.

I've deleted the pairing on the phone and car and paired again.

Along with still having random connections to BT with my Galaxy phone, I also have the message tag but its always been greyed out.

That is until today? Tab was available so I selected it and got the message window up saying something about downloading will show all messages as read.
So I selected yes and guess what, it failed to download.

Strange things happen with this car, is it a coincidence that I recently spoke to a Mazda man, and now a few days later the message tab is available?

I drive the 2013 Mazda 3,
I am having a problem with the Bluetooth Feature.
I can only hear the GPS navigation directions ( from my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone ) when im in BT mode.
IF i want to listen to Am/FM radio station i can not hear the direction, although i am still paired with the bluetooth, i figured the bluetooth would default

please help,
thank you
