Blew Stock Turbo.. what next?

Glad I'm subscribed to this thread.
Very good stuff - thanks for sharing.

Makes you wonder why replacing the turbo has ever fixed the smoking issue for some people, but at the same time it does answer why replacing it doesn't fix it for many.

Also takes some of the worry off having to deal with warranty and mods if you start smoking. Fix it yourself by checking your return line and adding a catch can first hopefully because it's not likely the seals in the turbo. As Ken has reported, many of the one's they've torn down that supposedly were leaking were just fine.

About a week ago my car decided to become a fog machine and smokes like crrrrrazzzzzzyyyy from under the hood and the tail pipe.. I did a little lookin around and sure enough the seals are bad and oil is getting into the turbo..
The thing is done and i need to replace it. What do you think.. reworked K04 or GT series turbo?
I'm thinking the reworked K04 so i don't have to rebuild the internals.
Let me know what you would do.. Thanks!

how did u blow ur seals, the ms6's had that problem but mazda fixed that problem when the 3's came out, do u have a boost contoller nd had it up a bit to high?? either way id get a gt, u dnt need to do internals, just dnt run high boost intill u do, u can run like 15lbs daily stock internals

I'm running the AP with catless DP.. i dunno what did it exactly but i was spiking at around 24lbs.. maybe too much boost.

yea that is a bit high for a ko4, i feel like the most ppl should run on these cars daily is 18lbs daily.. it will spike at like 20 but thats for a like a second.. but **** it get a gt series, if ur gonna do the work of ripin everything out u might as well put sumthin in that ur not gonna regret, and feel a biggg diferece with.

im with him y pay for half of a 30r and regret it u might as well have the capability of being able to do work after a while

As much as i would love a GT series turbo, i for some reason didn't go with it.. i just didn't feel ready i guess.
I ordered the reworked K04 with the WR catch can. Should be here in a couple weeks, i'm hoping to post some video's of a few pulls after the install.

I think you made the right choice, especially with the stock rods and pistons.

You also get to keep the great low end response of the stock turbo setup with a little more top end due to the port work and it should really pay off with your DP and other mods.

I don't know because I've never ridden in a MS3 with one, but I would expect the GT turbo'd setup is "peakier" with boost coming on later, but harder, and the bigger you go, the more that would be characteristic.

I should be making that kind of power fully bolted on stock turbo on dyno jet....Im making 276whp and 320 wtq on dyno dynamic which reads stock evo X 185whp Why to upgrade turbo if you can make that power on stock turbo??

why pay money for a reworked one...sure it may be a bit cheaper but dont you have to send in your old one before you get the new reworked one?....id rather actually get a turbo that is capable of making bigger numbers if i was to pay money for another one

The reworked K04 does make bigger numbers and can run more boost safer than a gt series would on my car. And i don;t have to send in my turbo until i install the new one.
I'm standing by it.. for now at least.
It will be installed soon and then i can say with certainty wether its trash or not. I'll try to take some before and after videos or something so you can see the difference.. if any.
