About a week ago my car decided to become a fog machine and smokes like crrrrrazzzzzzyyyy from under the hood and the tail pipe.. I did a little lookin around and sure enough the seals are bad and oil is getting into the turbo..
The thing is done and i need to replace it. What do you think.. reworked K04 or GT series turbo?
I'm thinking the reworked K04 so i don't have to rebuild the internals.
Let me know what you would do.. Thanks!

Bummer dude....if this ever happens to me down the road, I'm going with the reworked K04.

I can see going with the GT series if you're willing to do whatever else it takes to run it, and if the gains over the reworked K04 are worth that to you. I personally don't know much about either the gains, or the added mods required to run the GT series blower. I just would prefer to stick with an improved, stock solution and that's just me.

k04 is what is in our cars and audi's and vw's and every other car ever made accept srt4's and wrx's those have td04's. GT28r FTW screw the k04

I just feel like the reworked K04 would give a little better performance over just another stock turbo.
It wont have to work as hard and it should be safe to run with stock internals. Its just a hard decision because if i'm replacing the turbo i don't want to wish i did a GT series when i had the chance...

Thought I read the reworked K04 from Protoge Garage gives you about 30hp over stock, right? Only thing I see with that is another forum member with smoking turbo went with the reworked PG unit and smoke reappeared shortly afterwards.

Do you have a catch can setup yet? Might be worth a try to see if it works, and save you a lot of money if it does.

If it were me I'd go reworked turbo. They are even having some kind of special on them right now. It'll be instant gratification, put it in and go I'm guessing. If you go bigger turbo there will be a lot of other things you'll need to do.

Take it from a guy who is very experienced with the SRT-4 crowd (my brother owns one), and lives near PTP.
Don't go SST.
Superstockturbo...yeah

No to the reworked K04 then?.... why is that? Have you had experience with bad things happening to a rebuild stock turbo?

the SST's are a lot cheaper than a ATP GT28 w/ EWG (which is a must because those custom GT turbos for our car creep like crazy).
