Blaupunkt San Francisco

Hi !

It's me again. While I settled with Infinity Kappa series speakers and JBL amp, I still need a nice looking and powerful HU.

I ditched the idea of a sony HU. The Alpine ones are kind of ugly (don't flame me , I just don't like the green buttons)

Currently consider the Blaupunkt San Francisco, specs looks good, what do you think ?

Bluapunk definitly has a small but loyal fallowing but I have little experience with them other then when people wnat to get theres replaced. THey seem to be on par with most other decks.

Maybe it's just me...but that clarion just looks a ton better, even if the feature set is slightly lower. I've never been a big fan of Blaupunkt's new stuff. My college roommate had one of their head units and it was *ok*, but he had it mated to a giant sony multichannel amp which sounded like ass. That HU couldn't save it after that...His system was like an all cruthfield special (what I mean is, he never bothered to listen to it and just bought stuff based on hype) I don't have too much experience w/ blaupunkt beyond it reminding me of crappy country much and alternator whine (idiot didn't even install it right) Anywho...lookswise go with what you like, but soundwise if you're spending 300+ on a HU (and it's not a sony...1st's sig used to say why) I can't imagine that you could really get screwed.

i donno about blaupunkt.. i kno a guy that lives an dies by it.. an his system is actually really nice and sounds awesome.. but every single other person i talk to rips em to s***.. go figure.. its your car.. get what u like.. hell i have a jvc deck and changer.. do i like jvc.. not really.. but the color scheme matches my car.. it was a good price.. had a cool remote an plays mp3s.. 13 discs with 150 songs per disc = 1950 songs.. i can drive to hawaii with that much music.. well if they had a bridge i could -=)

the san francisco is an amazing head unit, but it doesn't like a lot of bass. i think it looks a lot better than the clarion, too. i had the CD70 SF for about 2 weeks. i destroyed one a week, for 2 weeks, then told my distributor they can keep it. all the features of the SF were great. it comes with a mic that you hold where your head normally is, and it adjusts all the speakers for optimal listening for you. then you can put it between you and a passenger and adjust it for that, and also do one for when you have passengers in the back. it stores them all, and switching between the settings is fast and easy. then you leave the mic someplace out of the way, and you can set it to increase the volume of the HU as road noise increases. and it works way better than i expected. the only thing i really hated about it was the remote. for one thing, it's huge. and for another thing, you have to mount an infrared eye for it. how ugly. other than the remote and the not liking bass, it was a killer HU. and it can be had for about $350 online but i'll keep my JVC KD-SH9750, cause it can handle the bass

Blech...that Blau just isn't to my tastes, wake...JVC on the other hand. When I was looking to fix up my old lumina (pre-protege) and replace the head unit, I was really interested in the old SH series (pre-arsenal). The new ones look pretty spiffy, too though!

Like I said before, though...at ~300$ + up you really cant go wrong with what you'll be running, I think. Like speakers though, I'm sure if you listened to some head units (brands seem to have similar sound reproduction curves from model to model) then you could find out what you like best, other than from solely a looks standpoint.

seksie! Enjoy it...it seems like a nice HU. I like the faux analog VU meters in the pic. Old-neu-skool style! I've always heard good things about BBE, too. Let us know how it turns out for you!

BBE is simply another boosting circuit that will add early distorion. Basicly another attempt to patch a poorly setup system.

Not totaly
BBE is like alot of audio enhancers. They are effective in the studio environment but are latter donw graded and rebaged and are in truth Boosting circuit.
Original BBE was impressive but now its just another Aiwa mini system bass booster.

In general, I like Blaupunkt. Had a Heidelburg (CD52?) in our previous car, and it was great. I like the cleaner lines and larger buttons on most Blaupunkts - the buttons in particular are useful when you are driving and trying to hit radio buttons. Too many other brands are loading up with vestigial buttons that are practically useless.

However, I don't much like the shiny in-your-face style of the San Francisco unit. Blaupunkt stereos used to be more restrained in styling, but now they seem to be going that tacky Air Jordan route of so many others. Of course, it's the sound that matters in the end...

Alpine looks tons better, and I'm not even a big Alpine fan.
