Black Front Badge (Pics)

On the front one too?

No. The front badge has 5 small clips on the back of the badge that hold it in place. Pop the hood and use a small flatblade screwdriver to push them free. You can see what I'm talking about by looking back there with a flashlight. Do NOT pry it from the front.

Wonder if I get the F/R blacked out emblem, should I get the blacked out Mazdaspeed3 emblem or just remove it?

nope. That sites outta there mind with those prices though......

I had to do it because I basically trashed my front badge on initial removal. I did something dumb. I will say that IMO the quality of the product was worth extra $. I've done a bunch of other spray jobs but the quality was way beyond my capabilities. I'm happy with the purchase.

We're going for an Orange front and back badge on my girlfriends new MS3, what is a good paint to use to give the badge like a chrome orange look? Dont mind doing it ourselves just want to know what are the best supplies to use.

I am a little late to this thread, but i blacked out front and back myself...especially after seeing street unit's prices! Anyway, i sanded the "flying M" badges, used black primer about 4-6 coats, and then used about 4-5 coats of mat black auto paint from auto zone.... Mine look great, but my room mate did it on his RX8 and they turned out like s***... He also did spend as much time on it as i did...so take your chances either way.

Dude, personally, i think that it looks way better without the mazdaspeed3 badge, but i also wanted to remove everything that i could... I ended up taking off and not replacing the MazdaSpeed3 badge and the door trim (gotta love tall doors!!)

Yeah, call me cheap, but i used krylon or whatever they had at auto zone. although, i was just doing a mat black, so its kind of hard to screw that up...

I think that the key is making sure that you have a good surface on the piece. My friend's RX8 badges look like crap, even having used the same sand paper, primer, and paint that i did. Just take your time sanding, putting on the primer and paint/gloss coats...but i guess that is how you paint anything!! LOL!!

I personally am glad that i avoided getting gouged by street unit on these and i am happy with how they turned out... I'll try to post pics tonight or tomorrow.

Anyone have a true red with blacked out emblems and no mazdaspeed3 emblem? Curious as to what it would look like?

Thanks Darksun. I am def gonna black out the emblems. Also like the clean look on the back with the Mazdaspeed3 emblem removed. Stealthy too :D

PS u gotta remove those side moldings...

Darksun, Did you also cut the emblem support to match the profile of the emblem?

if the back badge didnt have those holes i would have left that off too. My room mate and i stood back and looked at it when we took of everything and it looked so clean...

What grit sandpaper did you guys use and is there anything to watch out for when doing this on your own? I just put tint on my red rear reflectors so I am fealing pumped to do something more difficult.

Also, anyone do a shiny black paint? Seems like everyone did a flat so I am just wondering what you used for a paint. I assume it's spray paint, right?

How do you get the back emblem off? Just pop the back part of the rear hatch off or is there a door to access it?

Thanks!
