Bilstein vs Koni

After doing some reading on this forum, it seems like the best after market shocks/struts are either Bilsteins or Konis. The Billsteins seem to be the best but also the most expensive.

I spent some time on the both websites. I found the right set of Konis. I think I will go with the FSDs. I like the idea of the adjustable (yellow) one but the rear one have to be removed to be adjusted which is hardly practical.

As for the Bilsteins they don't have a listing for the 2008 MS3. I have found out that the ones for the regular 3 are not the right ones to use either. One post on this forum mentioned that we should be using the ones meant for the Volvo C30. If I am correct the C30 is built on the same frame as the MS3. Can anyone confirm this?

I would like to go for the bilsteins but first I need to be sure they will work. If anyone has done this and can supply me with a part number that would be great.

I would also greatly appreciate tips on where to buy from. Tirerack has the Konis for $700. I haven't found a price for the Bilsteins yet.

Thanks

You can try this place for the Bilsteins www.allshocks.com, but I would call before I ordered them online to get the spec's and make sure they are the right shocks/struts for a speed.

Fsd #

If you buy the Koni FSDs, the part number is now #2100-4045. This number supercedes the previous part number, #2100-4040. They are 20% stiffer and should work great for the MS3 palatform. If you plan on lowering your car then the Koni Sports, (aka yellows) are recommended.

I think the Bilsteins are ordered by searching the application for the MZ3, as there is no direct application part number for the MS3.

People are happy with either. I have the Koni FSD 4040s, as I had a leaky front strut and could'nt wait for the 4045s. They are on back order and I got a good deal from one of our site sponsors, THMotorsports.

The ride on my Konis are significantly better over dips, choppy pavement, railroad crossings, etc. and overall fells more plush.

I just wish Koni would get their act together and build enough struts/shocks..the backorder crap is on my last nerve, I have never had a car that I couldn't get almost anything I wanted for it at anytime. Must be a Mazda thing I guess!!
