Bike rack

Hello guys,

I am currently looking for a 4 bike rack.

What do you think is best. Wheel mount or frame mount?

Anyone can make me a suggestion, maybe pictures or review of them on your CX-9?

thx

I will probably buy from etrailer.com/

I've always preferred mounting bikes by the fork, with wheel straps for extra stability. Gets them down lower and they are more stable, roof or hitch.

I built my own hitch mount rack, but I do like the Draftmasters, as Force-1 suggested. Vertical fork mount is a nice idea. More compact and stable than other 3 or 4 bike mounts.

I recommend locking front skewers, and getting a long cable to run through the rear wheels so they can't be slipped off easily. Yes, cables can be cut, but at least it slows the thieves down and draws attention to them.

.

My wife and I have a Burley tandem, which is why we went with the Draftmaster. I can mount the tandem and 2 regular bikes on the back of the CX-9. The great thing about the Draftmaster is it pivots to the ground, so I can open the rear hatch without removing the bikes.

I also lock the frames to the rack with a cable when bikes are mounted.

I ride with a bunch of friends and we all have Thule T2's and a few of us have the T2 extensions so we can pick someone up and add the extension. It it a great rack, loads a bike in about 20 seconds. Bikes can't bump each other. Has more adjustments than some other racks so handlebars from one bike don't bump into the seats of the next.

If you haven't made a purchase yet, check out this one. This is pictures of my CX-9 with the bike rack we bought. We used it over the weekend for the first time and it was great. We loaded our Burley trailer in the back and was able to get it out with the bikes still on the rack. It is a little heavy lifting the rack back upright with the bikes on it, but not that bad. It's a Softride bike rack and we got it at etrailer.com.
