Bike Rack

I want to get a 3 bike rack that will attach to the hatch on my Speed3. (Like a Yakima Super Joe) Has anyone done this? Are there any attachment/fit problems because of the rear wing?

I dont think so. I think any standard two bike carrier will work. For a 3 bike you may run into stability problems and need to go roof or hitch. I have a roof rack on mine (thule).

using a back end bike rack for now... solid as a rock if strapped in properly. wing isn't in the way at all.

im rocking a two bike roof rack. whenever i dont have bikes on, the roof racks never on tho. to me they just look terrible.

I don't have any experience with roof racks, but it seems like it might be a pain taking the bikes in and out. I agree about the looks too, if I'm not hauling bikes the rack will not be on the car. I also figured (for no logical reason) that it would be easier to take off a hatch mounted rack than a roof rack.

I have a yakima rack...that goes on the car every now and then.
I don't like the way me car looks with it though.

Doesn't look too bad..but still.

well, its not really a PITA at all taking them on and off. but there is that big problem that seems PRETTY damn common people forgetting the bikes on their roof an running into things haha. but other then that they are pretty convenient and not much of a hassle to take on and off. i never use mine cause my bikes are BMX bikes so they are small and its usually just me so i always just find it easier to fold the seats down an toss it in the car with some towels.

please don't go the way of the VW peeps

well, a lot of us use our cars for DD and normal day to day stuff.
haul junk and grocery
help friends move ..etc etc

and then track days a few times a year.
That's what's great about this car...you can do anything you want and it looks good doing it. haha.

I leave my rack on for a majority of the time and tack it off for fun runs, TOD trips. I have pics loading now and will post up in a few. I dont think it looks bad AT ALL and get a lot of compliments on how it looks with the THULE rack on.

You think this looks bad?

So do I. You need a wind shield though, that thing loud without? Mine was~!

It's not bad, you get used to it after a few days. I filled the bars with expanding foam, which reduced the noise somewhat. The problem with the fairing is that the 3 has a curved roof, so it tends to vibrate against the roof when the wind hits it.

Update

Just to update everyone, I ended up getting the Thule 962XT Speedway 3-bike rack. (~$120 on amazon) It did a great job. It's wicked easy to take on and off and held three pretty heavy mountain bikes without any problems. My friend has the Yakima equivalent (Super Joe or King Joe, I don't remember) on his M3. He had to carry the lighter bikes as his rack was beginning to flex under the load. So there it is. If any Speed3 owners are looking to get a trunk mounted bike rack, you can't go wrong with the Thule.

Correct me if I'm wrong , but isn't the Thule fairing supposed to contact the upper part of the windshield to be more aerodynamic. It looks like it is streamlining the rack but there still is a hell of a lot of air getting in under that rack.

As an aside, I have a Saris rack on another car I own (a wonderful setup in my opinion) and i notice that when i take that thing off, highway mpg increases dramatically. So now most of the time I just leave it off.
