Bike Rack Installed, with pics

Ok, well now that we had a 72 degree day here in DFW, it finally got me motivated towards spring. I went out and got my bike rack and put it on the car. :)

To answer questions, It's a Thule 889, it bolts directly to the stock rack. I got it from REI here locally for $145. Installation was realy easy...

The only downside is that it is a bit long and hits the hatch when it's fully open, as you can see in the last tpicture.

Ok here are your pictures..

Yeah me! now I can sit back and grab a beer and think about actually getting back into shape ridng again.... But that's for some other day

Of course, I need to do about a $200 rebuild job on the bike after the last race before it will be trail ready again... I guess I'll just enjoy my rack for now... (and my beer)

whats up?
I was wondering what springs have you installed on your car? The stance of the car looks great. How is the drive? Is it smooth or bumpy?

Thanks!

what could you possibly need to rebuild on that bike that would cost in the upwards of $200 dollars...

alright to answer your questions...

1st, the car is on H&R springs... They are a little stiff, but by no means intolerable.. It doesn't "hobble" over bumps like you'd almost expect of a car that low.

The exhaust? It's just some generic weld on axle back, nothing cool... It was on the car when I bought it, so I dunno how much or where he got it.

And a $200 bike repair? Well after the last 24hour race we did in the sand/mud/soup crap we raced in I pretty much thrashed my bike. Currently it needs all new cables, and cable ends, brake pads, new bearings in the crank, new pedals(won't spin anymore) and a new Seat sinec I broke that one, and a new chain.. I'll probably find a couple other things that need replacing as well when I tear into it.

ok... question for you all....

anyone know if they make a fairing that fits this? The wind noise is quite obtrusive (ok, at 90mph), and I think I should do something about it..

Hi,

I've had my Thule rack on my car for a while now. I got a kit that fits into the stock crossbars, so there's nothing extra. It's prolly a little quieter than yours, but I can't bolt on many other generic goodies like you can.

Did you do the Bike race at 24 hour in Smithville? I went there once to check it out. A good friend of mine is the promoter (or was) for the Warda races.

yes, the short thule fairing should work, but only becase you dont have a moonroof..if i remember its part 555 but i could be wrong..i have that same rack, but the upright carrier(899xt), i wish i could fit the fairing on but it comes down on my moonroof..but i guess i could modify it..

short fairing, gotcha... I just looked and it's $45. I can handle that.

Nah, we did the 24 hours of rocky hill in November. It was that weekend when all of the floods happened... yeah, we were riding in the dark all night during that, lemme tell ya how much fun that was... I think I'm going to stick to adventure racing rather than plain mountain bike racing. It's a lot more interesting in my opinion.
