BFG G-Force Sport vs Kumho Ecsta ASX

I'm due for new tires (My Fuzion ZRi set is dead after about 4K) so I'm looking at the BF-Goodrich G-Force Sports and Kumho Ecsta ASX in 205/50/15. The BFG is an ultra high-performance summer-only tire, while the ASX is an ultra-high-performance all-season. The reviews for both on TireRack are outstanding. Any opinions one way or the other?

The asx's are decent tires but until you nearly wear them out, the sidewall tends to feel a bit soft and if you are to push the car pretty hard, it doesn't have as good of a positive feel as some of the other tires. I recently got a set of Pirelli Pzero neros and I like them a whole lot more than the ASX's.

I currently have two different pairs of tires on my MSP -- a pair of BF Goodrich g-Force KDW's in front, and a pair of Kumho ECSTA MX's in the rear.

I originally had four Kumho ECSTA MX, but I basically destroyed two of them -- COMPLETELY my own fault.

But in comparison of the two tires (as far as how they handle on the front, which is generally what matters) .. BF Goodrich all the way. They grip like mad. And not only is the tread pattern kickass, but they also come with a lip guard.

And I don't give a s*** who calls a high performance tire 'all season' -- there is NO SUCH THING! If you get anything that's distinctly performance related, it's always in your best interest to pick up a set of winter tires for when the snow hits. TRUST ME. Been there, done that.

I took a chance and I'm a sucker for "rated 1" at tirerack and went for the Bf G-force kdw 2's. They look awesome like Rush said and the lip guard is nice like Rush said.

Performance wise...I never had a performance tire in my life, these are my first and HOLLY s***...do they grip!! I've pushed the limits on the streets and they never let me down...just waiting to see how far I can push them next season on a track...scared to find out!

I am aware the the ASX is slightly softer, which might be a good thing since I intend to sell the car in about 18 months. I think the car would be easier to sell if the ride was a bit softer. I also thought I could just bump the tire pressure up to 40PSI to stiffen the tire a bit.

Rush - I agree completely with the all-season comment. Summer tires are great in summer, winter tires are great in winter, and all-seasons are always mediocre at best. FYI, I do have a set of Dunlop Winter Sport M3s on my stock wheels, so I won't be driving these new tires in snow. But I do find myself swapping the summer wheels on during nice stretches of weather during the winter, and summer tire tread compounds can get pretty stiff on cold mornings. That's really the only reason I'm considering an all-season.

I was also considering the ASX's for my msp but after reading several reviews regarding the General Exclaim UHP's I'm sold on them. I've got a local shop that's installing them for 86/ea 215/45/17. I'd say thats a pretty good deal. They're all seasons as well.

Well I just ordered the ASXs. I generally don't like all-season tires due to poor experience with them in the past, but hopefully these will change my mind. I might need a new clutch soon, so I decided to save some money on the tires.

why do you say the front matters more? ideally of course you want "bestest" handling on all four corners but you want the better tires in the back

I willsecond this , I have had rear tires with terrible grip on then and the car would oversteer in bad weather . You can control an understeer better that an over steer.

I currently have these on my P5 and love them. I've had them on for about 3,000 miles not and not a problem. They handle pretty good (I'm sure not as well as BFG's) and I've only had one problem with them in the rain. I was going 60mph when I hit a pretty pig puddle and breifly hydoplaned, I got it under control quickly though.

You can't beat them for the price.
