Better milage mods anyone ???

shift at 2k. Driving like that will get you better mileage but it will suck driving like that. You are in 5th at 40 mph. Very unfun.

I tried that, the thing is the load increases on the engine, and it uses more gas. There is a very fine line for good MPG on this car.

2k! (boom03) I think if you shift about 3k you should be good. 2k isn't realistic for accelerating.

Try to drive 60-65 on the freeway and you're mileage should be good(er). I cruise 3k RPMs @ 65 MPH and can get 30 mpg. If you have a 5-speed, just know that the gear ratios aren't the greatest.

ok i dont get it i dont push the can and i only go 400km per tank and when i push it i get 380km per tank what the hell am i doig wrong guys i keep the revs between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm (dunno)

Thats the weirdest thing I ve ever heard...I get about 600 kms I thought.

Went from Edmonton to Banff and to BC (Almost to Golden) on one tank...thats at least 600 kms

(mswerd) I think 3k even to 4k is ok, the main thing is just hardly giving it any throttle(read "no fun"). Keeping the revs too low can actually be inefficient too since there is no power down there, and you are just throwing a bunch of fuel around when you stomp it and it goes nowhere. I wonder if it would be possible to quantify fuel efficiency for a car in a graph, based on throttle position and rpm maybe (would need to be a 3d graph I guess). You would probably have to calculate crap from fuel maps and dyno info or something. Then you could figure out some optimal driving habits, like what rpms are the best, etc. But then again, that would probably be information overkill.

i get a lil over 400km per tank and 1/4 of it is in busy traffic.. rarely highways..

shifting @ 2000rpm is too early, i believe you're wasting more gas.. b/c when you shift to 3rd gear, you'll be lower then 2000rpm, then it'll be hard for the engine to pull forward, unless you feather the gas pedal.. (like riding a bicycle, if you shift gears too early, you'll be using alot more energy..) just my 2

other then that check to make sure your tires have enough air.. i usually put about 32-34psi.. and keep all the junk out of your trunk.. lolz

i even took out my spare b/c i changed to 17" and realized the 15" spare is just extra weight..

What about those of us that can't drive 65, if you drive 65 on the interstates here you get run over :P

70 min 75-85 is the average speeds with cops doing about 90 and pulling over for 85+

i have never reached 400 mpt. I get like 290-300 as the light turns on, but i always push it another 30 miles. Recently too i have been putting a lot of gas into my tanks.Ive been filling up 14 gallons and up. Last week i filled up 15.15 gallons in a 14.5 gallon tank?? and still this crappy mileage. GAH

if you are putting over 14 gallons on your fill-up's on average, how many times have you run out of gas?

LOL i get like 250 mpt i drive 25-30 miles on freeway back and fourth to work with hardly any traffic average speed is about 78-80 with the occassional drive 100 to get around some idiots. well at least once per trip :)

One thing i have noticed and do not like is that the car rests at about 3900 rpm's at 79 mph...maybe it's just me but that seems way too high.

and that making me think of a question...will engine mods change your gear ratio at all to where it takes less rpm's to hit certain speeds? if so i would think that would save gas.

Yeah shifting at 2k is not what you do to get on the highway but it is "ok" if you do it on surface streets. If you do it this way you will get 30 mpg on the city streets. When I shift at 3 - 4k I get something like 26 mpg.

FLSilverP5, I think you need to report those stations to the comptroller. I have rarely put over 14 gallons in, and it was running on fumes.

Shakethis, it's a 4 cylinder, most actually turn more RPM, and still get better milage. The only mods to reduce RPM at speed are custom gearing or really tall tires

yeah, i spin around 3250 at 70 MPH which is around 3700 at 79 MPH with my summer wheels. Believe it is a little lower with my snows on........the engine like running at those RPM's and keeps you from down shifting when you have to speed up....!

. My other car that is V6 3.5L 250hp burn less gas than P5.

i highly doubt that. i have averaged over 28mpg(combined mileage) for the 20,000+ miles i've driven.

Switch to a fully synthetic engine and transmission oil. The resulting decrease in internal engine and gearbox friction should give you a small but noticeable increase in fuel mileage.

I don't think I've ever reached 20+miles to the gallon.. ever...even on the highway. The catback, header and intake didn't help either. I usually shift at 3K. (dunno)

edit: I use Mobil 1 fully synthetic too... I don't notice anything.

Most of your MPG's are pretty low, I avg. 34 mpg in my ES..... I just got over 425 miles out of my last tank and I avg 80-85 on the fwy... Granted I don't race but I do take to her redline every now and then..... I keep up the maint. very regular...(Syn. everything - and always clean the intake) but the cat back and cai helped a lot... Prior to those I was only getting around 28-29 mpg... noticed a 1-2 mph diff with the NGK Iridium plugs also.....
