Best Place For A Wideband O2 Sensor?

I'm planning on installing a wideband O2 gauge to monitor my A/F ratio when I get my XEDE system but I could use some help on where to put the sensor. I've read that the O2 sensor should ideally go before the 1st cat (which is in the downpipe) but far enough away from the turbo that it's protected from the heat.
I was thinking of putting it in a test pipe until I learned that the first cat was in the downpipe. I guess I could put it in the downpipe but I'd rather get something pre-made than go to some shop I don't know anything about and hope they don't screw anything up welding in the bung.

Has anyone installed a wideband O2 sensor in their speed3?

The O2 housing's on the downpipe, right? That's what I'll probably end up using. I was hoping I wouldn't have to mess with the downpipe but that seems like the best choice.

The stock upper O2 sensor is already a wide band. You should be able to display the values without adding another sensor. You could try here http://www.plxdevices.com/ as a possibility, or something that reads from the OBDII.

As far as I know, I would still need to install my own O2 sensor if I used something like the SM-AFR from PLX because it doesn't have an OBDII input. I hadn't thought of a direct OBDII monitor. Where would those readings be coming from? If they came from the ECU then I think they might be inaccurate if I'm using the XEDE.

Hmm. Good point about the XEDE. I know PLX does a version that listens to a wide-band sensor and will provide an output to an ECU that is expecting a narrow band signal. If they do the same for a wide input to wide output, that should work.
