best mp3 player?

myeh....Im pretty againts the whole iPod/MP3 player revolution...damn kids wont do anything anymore w/ those things shoved in their ears... (peep)

Interesting choices... Everyone's tastes and needs are different. If you're active, you'll need a flash based player (HDD players will eventually s*** the bed on you with all that bouncin around) Personally, if you need one for both working out as well as... whatever else... it's best to have 2. Based on my needs, there's no better duo than the gigabeat and nano.

Gigabeat: Basically does everything the Zune does except it's much smaller. Supports every video format imaginable, tons of storage and (thanks to america's obsession with ipods) can be had online for a relative bargain.

Nano: Light as a feather, the only player that works with Nike+ (if you're a runner, this is one of the coolest things ever created)

I considered the sandisk but read about a lot of reliability issues. The Nike+ thing sealed the deal.

Whatever you get... assuming it's got a nice screen (one you want to protect anyway) you should consider investing in the invisible shield. Will keep your devices looking brand new forever.. without the need for bulky/fugly cases.

I got a iPod shiffle for christmas (peep)

Its all I'll ever need in an MP3 player since I only ever use them for working out....

I like the shuffle... especially the new one. it takes the simplicity of an ipod to a whole new level. sometimes less is more. we're all so damn inundated with technology... I can see the appeal of not having to worry about what's on... just knowing that (since you imported it) it must be good.

i still like the nano better though!

OMGZ 3nd of werld!!! Been greedy lately? Some people don't have goddamn food or goddamn water. You should have asked for reality instead.

Thank you for this useless insult that has nothing to do with the thread. Yes I'm rich and im proud of it because I have more to give to charity than others. It's obvious you don't know s*** about me so before you go spouting of useless garbage like that maybe you could consider the fact that I was warning people of a potential problem with a product. Or perhaps you could consider that I can afford a brand new mazda 3 but I choose to drive alittle sh*tbox 323.
Anyway I'll edit my post to make it sound aalittle more humble. would that do it for you?

I'm pretty sure Dimitrios was kidding... A quirky sense of humor sometimes doesn't translate well online. Regardless, since when do you have to be rich to buy an ipod? s***... if having $200 makes you rich then... call me Bill Gates.

No, just leave it as is; it'll totally mess with the continuity of time-space. And yeah, anytime for the insult. Let me know how your taxes come out.

That was ,my point. I didn't buy the Ipod my parents did. they are not rich and niether my I. My Parents were elementry school teachers for over 30 years and made half of what most of your parents did and they did twice the work. I never had big christmas presents and I could care less because my parents worked goddamn hard for thier money and so do I. I was pissed of that my Ipod didn't work well ****! I havn't ever gotten anything like that from my parents and the first goddamn big gift they gave me is ******! s*** I make more than they do right now and I spent over $300 each on them and I'd do it even if they gave me dog s*** for christmas. All you fuckers like to do is talk s*** when you have no clue what I'm like. So yeah go ahead call me greedy. That means a whole lot over the internet anyway.

Tough day on the market? Whether you're rich or not... no need to get all bent out of shape dude. The only thing I can agree with you 100% on is the fact that I don't know you. Based on the extremely limited information I do have, however, I'd suggest you forgo the DS and buy some aroma therapy candles instead. At the rate you're at, you'll be in for triple bypass by the age of 25.

Oh and... nothing against teachers or anything. Hell, my wife's a teacher and so are a number of my friends. While it's certainly not the easiest job in the world, there are definitely a lot of jobs out there that are FAR more demanding. Saying that they work twice as hard for half the pay (as most of us) is pretty ridiculous and frankly, insulting. Until you move out of that glass house of yours, I'd suggest keeping the stones locked up.

Creative ZEN Vision. Best quality, cheapest price, most user friendly interface too. I LOVE mine!

This was the reigning "ipod killer" until the gigabeat & zune took over. If you don't mind the bulk and 4:3 screen, this player can be had for next to nothing these days.

If the guy who started this thread is still undecided... check out www.cnet.com IMO, the best tech-review site around.

well, i work at circuit city, and everyone there wanted an mp3 player for christmas. The company "loaned" me an IPOD video to try out, and one of my co-workers a zoon. I love the video, i run windows xp sp2, no problems at all. Plug and play, really. Has a nice crisp screen, too. It pretty much lives in my car tho, cuz it has all my nice tunes. The zune and the ipod have the same capacity for songs at 30gb. There is a misconception about the number of songs they can hold. Its all about the bit rate the songs are in. For instance, you can set the music at a very low bit rate, and they will take up hardly any space, but will sound like a telephone ( approx a bitrate of 64). The zune box says it can hold 10,000 songs or something... well yeah, if you use WMA bit rate with a rate of like 96... Anyway, both players are great. I dont listen to the radio... so that feature is useless to me for the Zune. Also, the wireless share feature for the zune is a bit of a gimmic IMHO. The songs expire after 3 plays, or 3 days, whichever happens first.

Although, I bought my dad a Sansa c150, and he LOVES it. Its a 1gb player he takes to work with him. So the 3rd party brands are great! Also check out the creative zens and stuff. they are a great alternative to the Ipod

How exactly is that insulting? Obviously you were one of the few that don't fit into that catagory so why would you find that insulting? I said MOST because there are very few jobs more demanding than a gradeschool teacher. plus they don't even get payed for half the work they are expected to do.

It's insulting because you are insinuating that your parents did twice as much work for half as much money as MOST of our parents! Am I to automatically assume that I don't fall into the "most" category and thus, not take offense?

For the record... I was obviously being a bit melodramatic. The day I get personally offended by something someone says online is the day I'll be spending my night in a room with padded walls. Even still, at the risk of coming across as an insensitive prick, most teachers don't have it nearly as tough as you think (or as tough as a lot of them would like you to think.) Sure, it has its challenges. What job doesn't? But the good definitely outweighs the bad in most cases. I say most cases because most school teachers (just like most cops) aren't suiting up for battle in inner cities every day. The media and hollywood create false perceptions for a lot of professions, but perhaps no more so than the aforementioned.

Before you put words in my mouth, I'm not saying that those respective jobs aren't tough. All I'm saying is that, on average, they're not nearly as tough as the general perception would make one think.

My friend (who's a cop in my hometown... a relatively small town) basically sits in his cruiser for most of the day watching traffic go by while (even though he's technically not supposed to) listening to sirius. He tells me the highlight of his shift is usually an accident or something a theft at the local walmart... he's been on the force for 5 years and never once pulled out his gun. Meanwhile, homez is making over 6 figures with all the OT he gets. not bad for directing traffic and sitting in a car. Clearly the cops working in the the inner cities got the raw end of the stick. But, just like teachers, the pay is relatively the same no matter where you go.

As far as teachers go... my wife said the first 3 years were brutal. Superiors constantly observing and nit-picking every little thing. Hours upon hours of creating lesson plans and grading papers after school. Combine that with the mandatory summer classes one needs to take within those first few years in order to get their masters and the job appears to suck ass. (especially since you're getting paid peanuts)

Then all of a sudden things get easier. no more summer classes so your summer is free. (not to mention all the breaks the kids get) you've basically already created the lesson plans so it's just a matter of tweaking them as you go. Grading papers is still a chore but you find shortcuts. your superiors know you're good so they leave you the hell alone. Now throw in the fact that you're getting paid about $10k more than when you started (and that pay is just going to keep going up about $4k every year until you max out at around $90k/yr (here in CT at least) and you've got yourself a pretty cushy gig.

Obviously you can make a hell of a lot more in the private sector. But it's by no means a given. Nowadays, those working in corp america making decent money might as well have a target on their back. working for the town/state... you basically have to do something illegal or just really suck at what you do in order to get cut loose. Private sector? you can be the s*** at what you do and have a record as clean as a whistle... some douchebag up at corp says it's time to downsize, you're SOL.

Bottom line: all jobs have their pros and cons. Without some specific and legitimate facts, you can't say one is easier/harder or more/less fair than the other.

Sorry for the digression... I'm just not a big fan of ignorance.

So yeah... mp3 players are cool. Can't wait till bluetooth headphones are perfected and become the norm. I've got em but they're too bulkly and the sound quality isn't the greatest. I say by this time next year the latest/greatest mp3 players will have this capability built-in. or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Hahaha!! sorry man... too late!!

once the fingers start movin... there's no lookin back. but enough about 4play.

hey... at least I brough her back to topic with my closing remarks.

I got my wife a creative vision M ... she loves it.

*EDIT* I posted in here after reading the first three replays. Then noticed the argument... I didn't read the whole thing, but my wife is also a teacher (kindergarten). This is her 6th year. And she DOES work twice as hard as anyone I know. But that is most certainly not true for all teachers. She's the only teacher at her school that does her own lesson plans and doesn't just hand out work sheets all day. (I hear no end of it:))
