Howdy, it is time to upgrade my speakers and I want to add an amp as well.

For my last four cars I had Best Buy intall units for me and the guys here are very good.

Should I buy the equipment at Best Buy and have them intall it or am I better off buying it on ebay and having them intall it.

I added Circuit City because I welcome any opinions on their service as well.

Thanks for any comments.

I say you are better off buying it on cardomain.com or some place like that, and installing it yourself.

None of the above. Find some speakers that are in the price range you're looking for, then see if there are any stores in your area (small car audio stores, not CC or best buy if they can be avoided) and go listen to the speakers. As far as instalation, just find the best price.

speaker installation is a breeze. find you a local shop get you some good stuff and spend a day installing it. i can wire up full system, cd player, 4 speakers, 2 amps, and sub it about 2 hours.

I haven't done any sort of wild sound system im my car but I replaced the 2 front door speakers and the 2 rear deck lick speakers, I purchased Pioneer 4 way speakers at BestBuy, I also bought the 4 year replacement plan too, after 10 months of having them in my car I can already tell that they are gonna have to get swapped out soon. So I say bestbuy and get the warranty, s*** thats a good deal too, lasts 4 years and is transferable when you sell the car

SCREW BESTBUY!

Seriously, why buy a 2nd rate deck from a place where the help's as knowledgeable as umm, well a bestbuy salesperson who knows more about how to sell you a bogus secondary warrenty than they know about the product? I spose bestbuy is a touch better then egay beause atleast you've got a potential to BUY warrenty help.

Circuit City, (thumb). But thats because I get spakers for a discount. But our employee discount sucks balls.

circuit city will give you great advice... but both times i had stuff installed in my truck they put the interior panels back on wrong so i had creaks and squeaks where they werent before. in my cavalier the door panel actually fell off. i went to two different circuit city's. i loved the head unit / amp /speakers, got a great deal... but i was not happy with the install.

I would go circuit city over the others. And if you have the extra all ways get the extended warrenty. I like it loud and tend to hurt speakers all though this time I got a hell of a good system and haven't had it up even close enough to blow anything.
But any ways. Why not instal it your self. If you have a protege it is extreamly easy to do. Say some cash.

since when? our accomodations were pretty good back in 2000.

I don't want to do this intall myself....I can imagine breaking something in the door and having to pay five hundred dollars to replace the $20 plastic part.

As far as Best Buy employees not knowing s***, that is a given, I don't go there expecting to gain knowledge, I go there to buy stuff at the lowest price with a waranty and a "store" to return it to if I need to.

it's like 3 screws and when you get those off the door panel pops right off. it's just all those places will **** you for install and i hate to see someone pay to much. the only thing i've every paid someone to do in that line of work was to make a cover panel for my sub box that matches the trunk and to hard wire my inverter for my ps2 into the ignition.

Our instore accomodations suck. But if you buy stuff throught the vendors then its good. But you have to wait like 4-6 weeks for the vendor to ship you the speakers.

EX: 80Gb hard drive =$79.99
Instore employee price=$77.99

Yea.....well maybe I could just hook up new speakers but I want to add an amp and I have no clue how to wire all of that stuff.

i say buy whatever your looking for at a local audio shop find the best price and install it yourself... i've put two systems in two of my cars and helped friends, been doin it for acouple years so personally i enjoy installing everything.

Well, I just spend about five hundred at crutchfield.com going to get the equipment and have the dudes at Best Buy install them. :)

i rather buy from crutchfield and then go to a local audio shop to install them. i don't trust the "technicians" from bestbuy touching my car.

You know, I tend to agree with you, I have had local shops do stuff for me as well, but I tell you, they are so booked that you have to make an appointment a month in advance. And they don't have the whole mall to hang out in while you are waiting.....(and a Hooters). (cheers)
