So I just lost the alt/water pump belt on the MSP. Luckily caught it in time and no damage was done. I should have replaced them long ago but it finally caught up with me.

I'm pretty sure I can replace these myself but this would be my first attempt at doing it. Is there anyone in the Tampa area that has experience with doing it to make sure I dont **** it up and would be willing to help?

Beer is on me :D

s'all good. not ready to do it yet anyhow. and like you, I have the idea of how to do it but it never hurts to have someone there to lend a hand incase I go full retard....

well if you have time to wait I get back aug 8th... my brother is in school for auto mechanics and he's done multiple belts

...taylor i have 0 doubt in my mind you can do both those belts with little issue...like i said its not a fun job but even the retard at jiffy lube could knock out drive belts on a protege

its surprisingly easy to replace belts, IMO the hardest part is setting the right tension, too loose and it'll squeal, too tight and it will damage parts

just loosen the main bolt holing the alt before starting and it will go much easier, it should be a 14mm reachable from the bottom

You should never go full retard. I'll be standing by your side with your helmet and a hose in case you set yourself on fire somehow. Cuz with you.... you never know.

Weekend road trip for Korey & I??? :D

C'mon down! We can drink beer and supervise. (evil)

That should be a fun project. I remember watching the guy change the Alternator on the protege, hard to access but easy to replace.

Sounds like you've got the help you want lined up. If things go South, feel free to PM me. I haven't been under the hood of an MSP, but have replaced belts on a number of different cars. Would be willing to come figure it out with you, and I'm local (Riverview).

Im replacing the belts on my MSP. I've never done it before but its definitely easier than I expected. I'm halfway done and will be done with the belts tomorrow. Now I just have to wait for the correct coolant overflow tank(ebay seller sold me one for a 95-98 protege) Then Ill do a radiator flush and hopefully the car will be running way better than it was before. A/C that doesn't work well in florida sucks.
