BEGi Cold Air Intake Box

It sure dont look better then a MS CAI type as far as grabbing cool air.Im wondering if it uses that small hole opening there that is plugged up by the factory for the MS3,Its open on the regular 3.

Yeah everything AutoExe is so expensive, I bet no one even buys that crap. It's a nice concept they have though with that product. I wonder how it's performance compares to a CAI. The BEGi intake must have some sort of vents or ducting or something in the front that they don't show pictures of otherwise the only air it could suck in would be the warm engine bay air.

Look at the area where the cold air box goes. It sits next to the big hole going into the area above the wheel where a CAI would be located. The CAB has its opening facing this hole and is pulling air from there. Naturally, since the CAI is down in the middle of this area, the air will be colder with a CAI. But I imagine the CAB would come fairly close. Definitely way better than an intake sitting unprotected in the engine, anyway.

But it's so perty. Just like all their stuff. They must employ a full-time industrial design artiste. Hard to imagine it justifies the price premium, though.

I think they thought they were making this for a Ferrari,Mazda owners dont blow that kind of money on something that will do the same job as a $200 or $300 product.Id be surprised if they sold any to people that are not employed by them.

i got the ms cai shipped $300 thursday , installed it saturday and it makes a noticeable difference, I am the biggest skeptic in performance parts but this was definately an awesome buy, that box looks cool but the air inside is probably anything but cool.

I have had it now for a week. After 300 miles, no CEL's. You can hear the turbo spool up. The one I got didn't have the company logo across it so it almost looks like it came with the car. My fuel economy has increased slightly. Also, my Forge BPV sounds damn good.

Do u think it'll protect from rain?
How much louder is it from stock?
Is it CARB approved?
Oiled filter, right?
Why no logo?
Can u feel the hp improvement?
Where did u buy it?

1. It is a little bit louder than stock. The turbo spooling is louder.
2. No, it is not CARB approved.
3. Yes it is an oiled filter. I am looking for a dry filter to replace it.
4. I'm not sure, but I really don't mind. To me, it looks cleaner without the company logo on top.
5. Yes. No dyno numbers yet and I don't know when that will happen.
6. Protege Garage.

Do you have a baseline dyno? Do you hear more turbo spool than intake whoosh or do you get a lot of that sound, too? Dang, I wish they'd come out with it b/f I got my CAI. I might have to sell it and buy the BEGI.

What about the HKS intake has anyone tried it?

Now I am assuming that the reason you want the Begi is because it will not have hydrolock issues. So has anyone tried the injen water resistant prefilter on the MS CAI? and if so how safe is it?

I currently have one on order (should be here any day now, although i have been saying that for the last 2 weeks) once i get it I will post a DIY for the install...

Reason why i got this is in australia when it rains, IT RAINS! wanted to keep the same mounting points as the std airbox and its about 1/2 the price of a mazdaspeed one and i doubt it provides double the performance of the BEGi box..

I too will be looking for a dry element filter, but will run the oiled one for a while as i have had experiences with K&N oilers before and as long as you keep it sensible with the oil, they are fine...

Great, you also gonna put it on a dyno before and after to satisfy our desire for information gained at other's expense?

Yeah, we get some pretty good flash floods here. I've pretty much gotten to the point where I can drive through the usual inch or two of water on the road without worrying. But why have to worry at all?

As far as a prefilter, that's pretty much just a splash shield and wouldn't keep water out if the filter is actually partially submerged in water.
