Bean's Intake Air Temp Comparisons: MS/AEM, Stock/SRI, F2

:
'02 Honda S2000
UPDATE: 6/28 - got readings from 94F at the bottom of this initial post (RTM)

Weather was 89F, Stock intake (stock paper filter) has no resonator. Without the TB mod, IAT temps would most likely be hotter as the MAF is only about 8in away from the TB.

Stock vs AEM done on the same day. Would've done the F2, but had to go to work. It's gonna be ~99 tomorrow. I'll see how well the F2 shines then.

Stock Intake IAT readings:
99F @ initial start
102-118F @ normal cruise (steady rising, 115-118 fluctuations)
100F @ idle (2 minutes)
113F @ 25% (Calculated load) - .44lbs/min (MAF rate)
115F @ 75% - 2.37lbs/min
124F @ 99% (3rd gear 3k-6k) - 8.05-10.24/min
124F @ idle (2 minutes)

126F MAX
114F Average

pretty much stayed at 124 the rest of the way home just after 2 WOTs.

AEM CAI IAT Readings
95F @ initial start
95F @ idle
97-100F @ normal cruise (fluctuations)
106F @ 25% - .27lbs/min
104F @ 75% - 2.63lbs/min
100F @ 99% - 8.12-10.36lbs/min
100F @ idle

106F MAX
100F Average

Looks like with a short ram/stake intake, without the freeway driving, your temps with the stock should be really close as both are getting air very close to the engine. Those who would like to keep your stock intake, your only hope is Monzsta's ram air mod

UPDATE:
Did the F2 during 85-86F temp day and this is what I got:
F2 CAI IAT Readings
?F @ initial start <scan tool was taking a long time to connect>
?F @ idle
84-88F @ normal cruise (fluctuations)
84F @ 25% - 1.4lbs/min
86F @ 50% - 3.80lbs/min
86F @ 75% - 6.51lbs/min
84F @ 99% - 8.54-11.26lbs/min
93F @ idle (88-91-93)

93F MAX
86F Average

F2 Readings at 94F (according to MSN.com 6/23)
(same method of testing as previous)
97F @ Initial start [coolant temp: 124F]
97-100F @ normal cruise (fluctuations/100F at idle)
93F @ 25%
93F @ 50%
95F @ 75%
93F @ 99%
100F @ idle [coolant temp: 187F]

100F MAX
96 Average

Damn! That is a huge difference between the AEM & F2. We need to give this man some serious brownie points.

Yeah, the beaner is very thorough. You should read some of the stuff he's posted on another 3 forum--it'd make you head spin.

used the tekmate scan tool to do some data logging... correct me if i am wrong here bean but thats what i thought you were using.

thats a pretty big difference even though it was 3 degrees colder your still 10 degrees different then the aem...

wow, these comparisons should be put on the f2cars website, they will make a killing... First it's a bit cheaper, the dyno shows more gains, and now the air temp. comparison ...

Thanks. F2 is already making a killing 'cause of the GB i set up for them :) F2 intakes will be available for sale again next friday to meet the sudden demand-- that batch will be set to work with MTX and ATX.

I got readings for 94F temps today. I'll post them once I get the values.

I'm using Tekmate's scantool. Mine's for sale for $75 shipped (usb connection) if anyone wants it. I'm waiting for the Auto Enginuity tool to arrive so i can use that to possibly get the SAFC-II to work for the 3. Tekmate's software uses AE, so you need help, you can talk to either, which is really cool. It's actually easier to use than AE's after I've been fooling around with their software for days.

As far as the design goes, does the F2 sit lower than the AEM? I'm not too worried about sucking in water but just being a little precautious. It sounds like the F2 is a better product though, where did you buy yours?

f2cars.com. intakes should be available this week from what I've been told by the owner.

The AEM/Mazdaspeed filter sits closer to the wheel well vents. The F2's filter sits close to the horn. So if you take out your left foglight- the intake temps would be even colder.

I know this is a retarded question, but you have to take the front wheel off to install any CAI correct? Also, what kind of filter do they use, or do the manufacture their own?

no, but it makes install easy for some. I didn't have to-- just turned the wheel as far as it can go to the left. I don't think I even raised the car.

I don't think they manufacture their own (possible outsourcing then branding their own company logo).

EDIT: post updated to include a reading from 94F weather (on the F2).

Bean your awesome, thanks man.

hey a little more info to add....

with my simota cf sri
76 ambiant air

84 at initial idle for about 2-3 minutes
82@ 25%
79@ 50%
79@ 75 %
78@ 95%

i drove for a total of 15 minutes or so and when i was in traffic it was a steady 80-82

when i got home and let it idle a bit just to see what the temp would do it got up over 120

the cf heat sheild and simota design and filter really seems to work well imo.
