Battery Replacement?

:
2010 CX-9
My 2010 GT AWD is 4 1/2 years old and has 57,000 miles. Runs great and I do all maintenance. Do you think I should replace the battery just to be on the safe side? My wife will be making a long commute starting in January and I don't want her getting stuck. I know they usually last 4-5 years so I figure it could be worth it. Any thoughts? Also, how many CCA should I look for and does anyone have one they like? Thanks.

i think a 4 year-old OE battery still has at least a couple of years on it. you can get it checked at an auto parts store for free.

our 2006 bmw OE battery lasted 7 years. my 2006 mustang gt still has it's OE battery but it is only summer driven. our 2011 cx-9 battery seems strong but oddly enough my brother's '11 highlander battery died last year and they had less mileage.

but if you really want to:

autozone's duralast gold is one of the highest ranking batteries in consumer's report. i had one that lasted 8 years in a jeep cherokee. we replaced it with a battery from advance auto though because of a good sale. i replaced the battery in the bimmer with a wal-mart everlast battery that got good forum reviews.

i'd buy one with the best price/warranty and check the manufacture date to get the freshest one; keep the receipt in your glove box.

I replaced the battery in my 2009 Kia Sportage about 5 months ago. And tat had over 200,000 miles on it. Id say you have at least another year, if not more on your current one.

Thanks for your input. I will stop by Autozone to get it checked before I buy. I was thinking of the Duralast gold as well. I put one in my 09 TL after that battery died at two years. That was why I was thinking of changing this one.

I would have the check it before buying one. The battery in my 2012 gt was replaced at around 8-10k miles under warranty, but with my luck i got a bad one.

My 08' is garaged daily and the oem battery died literally overnight. It lasted about 3.5 years. And since it shuts the headlights off even if you leave them on, my oem was never drained accidentally even. It just quit, like overnight. OEM batteries are designed only to last for a few years. I went with the Interstate Megatron Plus which is overkill, but it will last like 10 years and never die in any temperatures. Its pricey, but worth it!

Any battery with the name Megatron should be awesome, right?!? Haha!
But really any name brand battery with a good warranty will get ya through. If you want to splurge on CCA (cold cranking amps) it is usually worth it. While there is some bloat in using it as the only number for battery performance, generally more CCA means more power to turn the engine over, useful when it's cold out. (From my basic knowledge of batteries).
