ughhh, ok stock tires are crap. went to the track tonight and with all my intalls i cant stop spinning first through third while boosting 17 lbs. best time i got was 14.06 and it was all because of tire spin. its bad when u get back in line and people tell u they saw u squeeling until u reached the halfway point of the 1/4 mile. im just wondering if theres other tires out there besides the bridgestones, pilots, yokohamas, that will fit onto this car's stock rims. so far i havnt had much luck finding reliable tires for a decent price and that actually grip. these bridgestones are almost bald and when boost hits in first, second or third they spin.
 
ah yea those dunlops look pretty good, might have to try em out. thing is my stocks aren't even bald yet, they still got a bit of tread but they just dont hold the road or a track, especially when its cold.
 
stock tires aren't meant to be used when the temp is below 50*F

thats why they're called "summer tires"

a good street tire for cold weather is the Continental extreme contact. I've had no problems, not as much dry traction and far better wet. If I HAD to pick an allseason tire to use year-round in 4 true seasons, this would be it
 
well i live in florida, dont think i need anything other than summer tires as it only goes below 50 maybe 1 week out of the year.
 
if you're into drag racing why not get some slicks or a drag radial for when you're at the track? traction is not going to be your friend trying to drag a high hp FWD car on a street tire. you'll get good traction at the track and save the tread on your street tire so you won't have to buy new tires every few months

i'd imagine the stock tires aren't "crap" but instead don't fit the type of driving you're trying to do with them.
 
conversely if they had put 50,000 mile tires on there people would be complaining about how poorly the stock tires grip like the WRX folks. plus all their magazine numbers would be worse so they'd be harder to sell i'm sure. they're damned if they do damned if they don't
 
Maybe its because I live in Vegas, but my tires are at about 30% tread, and I have over 17K miles on them. They are more slippery then when I first got the car, of course. BTW I don't drive nicely!

I wonder if the accelerated wear some of you are experiencing is a result of the road surface and its abrasion. Vegas streets are notorious for being a little slick, and missing the abrasives in the road.
 
your tires have a treadwear rating of 140. by comparison the 3s, a more commuter friendly car but still a little sporty, gets a rating of 260 so your tires should wear out almost twice as quickly. if you get 17k out of them with 30% tread left that's about right. they'll need replacing at 15-20k miles for most people i would assume, people who use it as a light DD can probably make it to 25k, the real grandmas can maybe make it to 30k but i doubt many people will, at least not safely
 
I get bored with tires too quickly to make them last much longer than 15k, lol

always something new and exciting out there that I want to try - part of the reason I stepped down to 17s, more available tires/better prices
 
yea, i know these tires werent meant for drag, but either is my car. i go just to see what my upgrades are doin every couple of months. but yea the stock tires didnt hold anything this time when i went. i do plan on auto-crossing it so im prolly just gonna go with some michellin pilots once my paychecks are more steady since i just started a new job. just wanted to inform people besides ask what others were getting. i really only have a few hp/tq mods and the stock tires dont hold unless its a fairly warm day out. at the track i went down a bit in psi under 30 but spun 1st-3rd and didnt grip until the top of third. but yea, new tires are definately my next priority...
 
Ive got Good year F1 all seasons and they are the best all season tire ive owned..They are great in snow and seem better then the stockers on dry ground.If anyone is thinking of a good all season tire these tires should not be dismissed.They also have carbon fiber reinforced sidewalls and PermaBlack compound additive that maintains new-tire appearance throughout the life of the tire.

Honestly, a wider tire on a 17" wheel with some more sidewall to flex will get you a better launch and more straight-line grip.

But lose transient response and emergency handling behavior that made this car such a winner to all those car magazines. As usual there is a give and take. Personally, I like the nimbleness of this car, and I feel that the suspension is tuned for this type of behavior. You might lose that "glued to the road, on rails" feeling when swapping tires and wheels to 17's (or to an A/S tire, no matter the brand.)
 
Anybody know a source for rattle can "tire softener"? I have a can of it that is basically empty that in the past I have used to perk up tires for autocross. The can is so old all the paint fell off so I have no idea of the brand. It worked well back in the day. I am sure it is hell on street tires, but I have my 99% worn out stockers still on their rims and was considering spritzing them for a "play day".
