Bad stock turbo :(

So I noticed a lil while ago, as I was sitting in a drive waiting on a Whopper, that it looked like mosquito control coming out the tail pipe. Nice cloud of blue, oil smellin' smoke. Took it in to Mazda and they tell me the turbo seal is bad and the turbo needs to be replaced.
I also was getting a squeak mainly when shifting from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. Tech tells me one of the cats. was not tight and that was the cause of the squeak. He said that will be fixed because they are replacing all the cats. Seems the smoke was coming from oil that had leaked into the cats from the bad turbo seal.
I hope I get my car back tomorrow...the Yoda loaner sucks ass. lol

Ouch, good luck with getting it fixed. I dread the day I have to do any long term in house work on the Speed3. For the past four years, I've goten used to getting 3 and 5 series loaners, and occasionaly the Z4 they had in the loan lot at the dealership.

Same thing, sealed burnt out. I'm not sure if your aware, but I have the 3" TBE, so my smoking was alittle bit more noticable. But since the swap, and its been approx. 3 months now I haven't had any smoking yet.

So I guess it's just hit or miss if you get a turbo with a crappy seal? Great..may have to rethink getting the extended warranty. Guess it didnt pass my 10,000 mile stress test. lol

What model years are your cars, ZoomRed and knowledge? I'm hoping that my 08 is ok in the seal dept.

Is your car totally stock ZoomRed? Sometimes people get smoke at 100% stock and sometimes only after exhaust mods.

Did the dealer give you any problems for the 3" exhaust knowledge, or did you swap it back to stock and still get smoke? In a perfect world the dealer would replace the turbo regardless of what exhaust it was attached to but that's why they call them stealerships.

Me and my dealer are cool. As a matter of fact, they are the ones I had install the exhaust. We have an agreement...hehe Anyway, no just one day I took it in for something I can't remember what it was, but they said when they started it to move it into the bay it started to smoke like crazy. Which I already knew but w/e... It was funny b/c I called to check up and see it if was ready and they were like, "were going to replace the turbo". And I was like **** do it. This was at the same time I had just received my standback. So I was a happy camper, new turbo with a new standback...hehe
But then it kind of went down hill from there with teh standback...but what the hell. As of now, I am just running all boltons at the stock psi.

Oh 07 is my year.

My car is stock other then the Mazdaspeed CAI. It's a 2007 picked up Dec 29th 06' currently has just over 10500miles.

cool thanks guys, I haven't had much experience yet with my dealer but I'm hoping they won't have a problem with mods if the turbo goes bad.

Assuming by driving habits you mean allowing approriate turbo cool-down time, and by oil you mean using OEM-recommended viscosity or comparable synthetic?

This car has only had one change with regular oil, so that makes to two one from the factory and another after. Then nothing but synthetic. I gave the car enough cool down time after a drive. I am a spirited driver none the less, but this issue is not due to driving habits. Either hit or miss...

The thing I'm worried about is going to have them look at it and them try to blame my exhaust for the faulty seal in some way. Has anyone else had a problem with that?

Man, the dealer STILL HAS MY CAR!!! Couldn't find one of the seals for the cats.
I called up and expressed my dissatisfaction with them yesterday. Parts should be in today. I MIGHT get it back Monday...if not than Thurs. I hate Mazda service. Takes way too long every time I take it in for anything.

Hey Zoom, would you mind posting your experience here on this thread: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123691179 , we are trying to create a database on failed turbos on the MS3.

Greatly appreciate it!!!(2thumbs)

The only time I'll get the dreaded white smoke is when I first start the car. Could just be all the condensation in the piping burning off, after that, no problems whatsoever.
