Bad motor mount??

Ok so ever since I got my car it's had a vibration at idle and in foward gears. After 3,000 rpms it seems to smooth out. I replaced the headers with the stock exhaust manifold and gaskets thinking it was an exhaust leak. That changed nothing. Than I realized how bad the passenger side top motor mount was and I replaced it. This helped somewhat but the problem still exists. The other mounts look okay but maybe there's one I can't see from the top. The main thing that's probably going to help is that it doesn't vibrate in reverse. Also when I load and unload the engine the shifter moves maybe half an inch or so. I figured this was just because it's FWD but maybe that will help figure out what's wrong. Thanks everybody.

Hey, welcome to the forums. Where in NJ do you live? If you're anywhere near me, I could check it out for you and give you my opinion.

There is supposed to be minor flex in the mounts. 1/2 Inch is not alot. It would have to be seen in person for a good answer.

Kooldino-. I live right along the hudson river. I'm about ten minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel and about 15 minutes from the GWB. I'm going to be at the track in Englishtown most of the day Sunday. If you're anywhere along the turnpike I can meet up with you on the way or even better yet we can meet at the track. I'd love to see your car run. Let me know

Do motor mounts usually go bad around 60k? Should I replace the driver side motor mount as well since I already changed the passenger side or should I be looking for something else? I cleaned out the EGR and changed the plugs. Anybody else have any ideas of what it could be? Thanks

it depends on driving... cant really say it went bad, alot of things can cause the vibration.... does it do anything else? like any sounds when it happens? also wat mods do u have in the car? u can try to take the front mount out... its not that hard. does your rpm drop like to 300? if it does most likey its ur mount, probaly the front. my sis had that same problem found her mount was completely destroyed. the other side rubber piece came out...... ya idk how the hell she did that but she did, still looking for replacement. =)

one thing i noticed the other day was the shift linkage..my shifter kept moving, and i wasnt sure why, but when i checked the shift linkage, i noticed that the rubber had broken..and the little Metal piece that was to go into the rubber, was hanging past the rubber..therefore doing NO good..maybe that is part of the cause of your problems..check it out.

I already took the front mount out. It was shot and I repaced it. This made it better but the vibration still exists. There are no sounds and my only mod is an intake. The RPM is unaffected. It does it when I pull away from a stop or idling. if I bring it up to 3500rpm everytime I shift I won't feel it. It doesn't do it whatsoever in reverse. Thanks for all the help

That's a bit north for me, but I may be passing through exit 127 on the parkway tomorrow evening...

Ok hopefully people are reading this because I'm not opening a new thread just bringing this one back. I changed the passenger side mount and than the front mount. The vibration was still there. I placed a floor jack underneath the transmission and lifted it a little and the vibration went away completely. The trans was leaning on the subframe bar(not sure what to call it, the frount mount is bolted onto it) I figured it was definately that mount on the trans on the driver side next to the battery. I take it out and it's a little messed up so I have a good feeling this will finally be the end of all this. I put in the new one and its just as bad. So basically all the mounts but the rear one have been changed. The reason for the vibration is the trans leaning on the subframe connector. Is there anything else that would cause that or is it definately that rear motor mount. It looks like a PITA to change so if anyone has any other ideas i can try first I'd appreciate it. Thanks
