Backlighting Question?

I noticed in my 06 Mazda 5 GT that the backlighting for the fan speed (glows green when park light or headlights selected) either doesn't work or its not supposed to work.

Can anybody confirm this for me?

Are you talking about the information display on top of the dash, or the dial that you turn?
