Backfiring. Talk to me about it.

nope. you can't tune for vta with ATR. I've asked christian and there just isn't a way. you can either use the standback i guess or run the maf as a blow thru which is more difficult cause then you have to move the maf to the cold pipe.

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the clarification.

Above my skill level, what does all that mean?

Means you move the MAF sensor so the ECU is happy. When you run VTA you are releasing air that should be recirculating back. The ECU compensates by making you run rich which is the cause of the backfires. You would have to get a custom welded cold pipe made with the appropriate bov flange.

running vta with a catalytic converter and backfire is also not good because over time you will damage the cat.

Yep, Bova's right. That is why the new Launch Control feature on the Cobb AP/ATR is a better solution than the WOT boxes on the market.

The Cobb method of Launch Control is to cut fuel to reduce revs.

The WOT box method of Launch Control is to cut ignition output and timing to reduce revs. In essence, you're still pumping all that fuel into the cylinder, but even more than normal is not being burned because of the way the WOT box manipulates ignition and not fuel delivery. This will ruin catalytic converters really quick.

So pull the 1st cat or go recirc are my choices?

What's worse? Recirc'ing hot compressed air back into the system or having no backpressure for the turbo?

I had backfires with my Turbosmart hybrid bov in 50/50 mode , now i run 100% recir and no more backfires . With the cold air & the speedie inlet i still have the VTA sound .

it would be the cool post-intercooler air but it would just get heated back up by the turbo again and then go back through so no harm there.

You're recirc'ing the air back into the inlet itself, pre-turbo.

I don't think I was clear in my post. My understanding of our turbo system is that the recirculated air is coming from post-intercooler and is being recirculated into the intake pre-turbo.

I think that puts us all on the same page.

I say replace your bov with a forge bpv =) I know some people don't like it, but I personally love it.
