back door speakers

I noticed my back doord have factory speaker grills in them. has anyone ever installed speakers in the rear doors. I wanted to put my rear speakers in the rear doors and use my deck mounts for 8" or 10" subs.
I own a 02 Protege dx

you can put speakers there, but you will have to run wires for them. i belive the cut-out is sized for a 6.5

Correct, the sedan and wagon (P5) share the same door panels. Since the wagon does not have a rear deck it has rear door speakers. Unfortunately for you the wiring will not be in the door to simply connect a new set of speakers. You will have to run wires through the harness in the door jam.

hey smittyp3, let me know how that works for you with the 8s or 10s in the deck. had been kicking that thought around myself. 6.5's are easy to come by and have a set of 8's and amp and all already.

I did this along time ago . the sound quality was incredible when i got a additional speakers. I was upset to find that there was no speakers there from the get go . when i bought the car i thought there was until i was doin my system and noticed no sound from my rear doors.

see...i have a 12" kicker comp vr that i had sliding around in my trunk, but i don't want that back there anymore, and i like having access to all of my trunk. i've been trying to sell the sub, amp, capacitor and box, but apparently no one wants a hell of a deal...and then i though about a good set of 6x9's in the rear dash hooked up to my amp just for a little more bass than stockers and then putting the "rear" speakers in the rear doors. running wires is nothing. however, isn't there limited room in the rear doors as far as depth of the speaker? what would be a good set of speakers for the rear doors?

I tried doing them but u need a special plug for the speakers which is another 100 to get the 6 speakrs working, because most stereos are run on a 4x4 system, my dad got his after market stereo in for his car and the plug was needed, in my protege the wiring was already there u just needed some adjusting, the only size speaker that fit was the 6x5

yeah it does suck w/o rear door speakers, thats one of the things on my list, but i gota see how much work its gona be....
