I installed the B&M shorty, but I'm curious about something. The B&M shifter is slightly 'crooked' or bent a certain way in the middle of the shifter rod, when correctly installed, which way does your B&M lean towards? I have it installed fully functional, and it is bent slightly towards the back of the car. Should it be leaning the other way when in middle neutral? It's different so I just wanna make sure I got it right. SIrNuke, which way does yours go, old man? (haha)

that is correct, the bend should face the driver, not the engine. It would be really awkward the other way!

:D Hey Sir Nuke!

Finally found a dealer here (up North that is) that carries B&M. Bought the shorty, should get it next week. Any install advice?

Thanks!;)

YES....make sure you have snap ring pliers to do the job...it will make it LOTS easier....

put LOTS of lube on the new shifter orings when installing it...ENSURE you get it in far enough for the ORIGINAL o-ring to be reinstalled on top and the snap ring...IF you can not reinstall both peices...its NOT bottomed out....pull it back out and put it back in...make sure its right.....

do you KNOW how to get the console out? you will need to ya know....

Thanks Sir Nuke

a) I have no idea how to remove the console...I knew it was necessary, I guess I'll need more advice.

b) what type of lube for the O-rings? I don't want to use something that'll eat them up, and remember we have calcium (salt) in the winter to consider (they use this to prevent the roads from freezing, here in the Great North)

c) I haven't seen the shifter yet so I have no idea how the thing works, or how it's installed.

Thanks

Anyone interested in F1 Racing out there?

A) you have to FIRST remove the cupholders...flip up the door and put a set of fingers in each cup hole and gently pull back toward the shifter...it pops out. Then stick your fingers in where the Ebrake comes throug and gently pull out on that...it pops out. NOW, in the hole where the ebrake is...look on the floor just behind where the shifter is and you will see TWO screws holding the console down. NOW, if you look up near the front...down on teh side of the console you will see two BUTTONS..be very careful and pop those off...youwill find a screw under that cap..one on each side...NOW, move the front seats as far forward as you can and look on the sides of the console near the back on the sides and you will find two more screws, these do not have caps on them. after you remove those 6 screws...the console is LOSE. Remove the shift knob buy just unscrewing it...out the car in 4th gear..and remove the console by lifting it up and back. that is all there is to it.

B) the oring lube comes with the shifter...not a problem. there is about 100 times as much as you need for the job.

C) its fairly straight forward....and it does come with instructions.

how much was it?

I paid $316CDN with all taxes.

And with Sir Nuke's help I should be able to install it myself.

Thanks again Sir Nuke

man the exchange rate must REALLY suck...mine was $140 US

and you are more than welcome....

one more thing about the install....you will be removing the boot off of the bottom of the stock shifter...its what keeps water and muck out of your interior...anyway...be very careful with it....obviously if you tear it taking it off...it means a trip to the dealer to get another one....put some grease on the shifter to make it slippery so that it will slide off and not catch on things....on top of that, what I did was insted of trying to get it off the bottom and streach it over the "T" shaped end....I removed it by taking it all the way UP the shaft of the shifter, yes you remove the nylon bushings that the "ball" of the shifter pivots on...but then all the surfaces you have to streatch the boot over are smoother and uniform on shape.....well...it worked for me....and I didn't damage the boot. ALSO, it helps if you set the whole thing out in the HOT sun....it makes the rubber of the boot softer and thus more flexible....and easier to remove without damage.

Yes the exchange sucks, BIG TIME : we have to multiply US dollars by 1.6 to figure out how much it costs us (in CDN$). I went to Florida a month ago and, on average, cost of living was the same there as where I live (20 minute drive from Montreal), but in US$, so no plans for vacations in the States...

Also, I have to consider %15 taxes plus shipping, plus dealer profit, so yes it's expensive but I really don't like how far back I have to pull for 2nd and 4th gear. I'll enjoy this modification.

Thanks a million for the advice, I'm planning a whole day for this.

Watch the qualification session tomorrow for the Canadian F1 Grand-Prix, and if you see a guy wearing a blue cap with a large letter "i" on it, it's me. I'll be on pit row the whole day as a Pit Marshall (isn't life great once in a while?)

that is the very reason I went with the short shifter...it was actually uncomfortable how far back 2nd and 4th are....

you won't need a whole day......if you REALLY take your time....two hours TOPS.....it took me about an hour.....

just take your time....and don't rush anything....and most importantly...use the RIGHT TOOLS...

you do have a pair of snap ring pliers...right? if not...get some...you can get a pair at an auto parts store for about $6

I use to race karts, so I'm pretty lucky my wife lets me buy the tools I need. If I don't have it, maintenance dept where I work surely has it, in 13 sizes and 4 colors...

For curiosity's sake, what does "Lol" mean? This is a new expression for me, up in The Great White North.
