AWR Motor Mounts

I bought my awr motor mounts a while back when street unit didnt give me a choice of the 3. how do i know what mount i have? or maybe its too far back for me to remember and i did have a choice i dunno. Anyways. I Finally put them in and i know they have to be broken in. I can deal with the start up vibes and idle vibes but will my dash shake hard everytime i blip the throttle from idle? maybe i have the 90s instead of the 70s. Any help in determining which ones i have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

Whether you have the 90 or 70 you will still have that vibration when blipping the throttle. Even the softest mounts are WAY stronger than the stockers. It will be worse if you have both, i only use the front one. If my back one decides to break then i'll change it out for an AWR.

I can tell you that the 70's are black in color and MUCH softer than the 90's which are Redish color. I started with the 90's and could take the harsh vibrations, so I switched to the 70's and its tons better.

My 70's were red...

If I were to guess I would say you got the 90s. If SU was only selling one of the durometers of motor mounts at the time I would think they would go with the stiffest.

I remember when I bought mine about 2 years ago I got the M/T ones (which if I'm not mistaken are the 90s). I remember Street Unit was offering the M/T and the A/T. That's the only choice I remember them having. After the break in tho mine were great. I now have the side mount inserts (still need to get that damn driver side one in lol) and I couldn't be happier with how everything is. My vibration is really not bad at all. As a matter of fact, it's almost weird cuz it barely vibes at all.

My question is how many miles do you have on yours and how to do you drive on normally?

I'd say there's about 25K on the Front and no more than 5K on the side. As far as how I normally drive...... well..... I should probably chill a little bit.

So I have a question. 90's are black and 70's are red for the Proteges as well?

The hardest ones are red for the front mount and black for the rear. They are very hard and if you take your fingernail you can't make an indentation in it. I have had these.

The middle hardest ones are both red and you CAN make an indentation in them with your fingernail if you press hard. They also both have "fluting" on the inside of the bushing -- i.e. little channels that just help absorb some vibration. I have had these as well. Not bad but still too much vibration in my opinion.

The softest ones I'm not familiar with because they're too new yet...so I won't speak on them.

I don't notice a whole lot of vibration from the stock mounts..... is it really neccesary to replace them? If so I know the front is an easy swap out, but the back is a b**tch to do from what I have read. Also, I dont have any mods done to my car other than Hardpipe upgrades with a Greddy BOV. Just curious if it's worth the $150 to upgrade.

Unless you want hella problems with basically everything under the hood I'd suggest changing them. When mine went out it messed up my exhaust manifold. The front is super easy to change and the inserts for the side aren't hard at all. Just get some sort of lube (I used Syl-Glyde from NAPA.. works GREAT!) so they slide on easy. And if you plan on getting the Corksport Power Series Exhaust then you have to have them installed for your warranty to be valid with it.

Why bother with tha back one, just keep the front one and call it a day.

Is this really a effective and/or logical solution to any potential problems? Or does it make more sense to just buy the pair?(front and back) Are the Side mounts really a necessary upgrade as well?

I say yes because my passenger side mount went out and caused MAJOR problems with my exhaust manifold. I had two bolts start backing out, one that fell completely out, and one that was broken off inside the head. This is ALL caused from the passenger side mount busting. I am a firm believer in the motor mounts and would say from my experience with the OEM ones that upgrades are a MUST.

Well thats good information to have. Thanks for the info. My next question is.... is this a "do it at home" project, or should I buy the upgraded mounts and have a shop do it for me? I'm no master technician but I can do minor mods myself.

Oh yeah. They're super simple. At least the front and side are. The front you can do in 10 minutes or less. It's super easy. The sides (I've only done the passenger side but the driver's side looks just as easy from what I can see) are super simple too. But remember that I just have the inserts for the sides. Just make sure you have a jack under the motor for the sides and use some sort of lubricant to help them slide over the arm and into their location. I also recommend using bolts, washers, and nuts to hold them in on the pass. side instead of the supplied zip ties. Looks cleaner and holds up better. Hope all this helps.
