AWR Motor Mount Install

yeah let us know how you go....i'm going to do my rear engine mount when i have the head and intake manifold off getting ported

Okay, I got my rear motor mount in today. What a PITA!

We almost gave up on it when we had difficulty removing the bolts and getting the socket to sit straight with the extensions coming up. But after many tries we were eventually able to get it done. I am afraid I don't have pictures because it got dark quick and picture taking didn't work out so well. Don't attempt to do this unless you have plenty of time.

Impressions, combined with the front and rear mount there is definetly more vibration, but the throttle response is even better. I have a feeling that things will settle down after I have been running with both mounts for a couple of weeks. Even at idle it's not that bad once the engine warms up, I am sure when I get my sparkco wires in it will be even better. Where you can feel it the most is when your pulling away at first doing a normal launch for daily driving, but even that should smooth out in time. Will keep you updated.

Hmm... I seem to be having an issue with the front mount... Have about 40k miles on the engine, and it seems the bolt in the middle of the mount doesn't want to come. I've used PB, WD-40... You name it. Did you guys take it off with an impact? 'Cause I tried a breaker bar on mine, and succeeded in stripping the bolt. Uugh. I'm probably going to have to use a bolt splitter to get the stupid thing off, now, just so I can get the new mount it. Anyway, if you could enlighten me, it'd be appreciated.

you need a deep well 6 point socket

I used a normal socket on my brothers and tore the corners off the nut, I ground down the burrs with my dremmel tool and then bought a 6 point deep well, with that it came off, I didn't use the nut again though, the other nuts from the stock motor mount are the same, so I just used one of those to replace it

18pt sockets are bad mojo for tight bolts

So it seems. =) Thanks for the affirmation. I'll go to Sears tommorow and pick up a set of deep well impact sockets for my impact, anyway, and use those. Thanks!

how in the hell did you guys get the plastic wire bracket off. I can get the top nut off but there is no way to get the bottom off. I am finally making some progress on this rear mount. I think i will give it another try this week.

What tools did you guys need.

I have a s*** load of 3/8 extensions but no 1/2" im gonna go get a 20" 1/2" extension and maybe an impact wrench. I had my 3/8 socket on there with a pipe on it and it felt like i was gonna snap something... I have a 1/2" breaker bar, so hopefully that will work.

How are people getting the bottom nut of the wiring bundle holder. I can't seem to get a socket on it.

Thanks.

same here, i think it is impossible...... i just got the top off, and manage to bend it out of the way to see the 3 nut on the motor mount... I will probally give it hell again one night this week. Not tonight though, EAGLES MONDAY NIGHT GAME!!!

yes, it's a royal pain. I tried and couldn't do it, and then my friend who was helping me with the process was able to do it. I think our winning comb was deep throat 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet. Needless to say that nut did not go back on. We also dremeled off about half of the bolt sticking out of the firewall that the nut was on so we could get a socket to sit flat on the last engine mount nut. The wiring harness stays just fine with only the top nut and proper use of zip ties.

The wiring harness will stay just fine with one bolt. It is a pain to put the bottom on and off that is why I just left it off. You just have to take you time and feel for it. Once you feel it> I think I used a 1.4 in deep socket put that on then slid my ratchet with adapter on. Just take your time and feel for it. Working on car sometimes the little stuff can be more agervating than the big stuff. Just part of working on cars. You will get used to it and learn the ways of dealing with the incoveniances all cars have these little things.

i couldnt get even my shallowest socket to sit straight on it, there is something in the way.

Try a 10mm deep throat socket, put it on with your hands and then put a ratchet on the socket, or use a small extension. that's the only way to get that nut off and it's a real pain.

We need a how too?? I gave up on the rear. ( I even had the tranny off too, to tired and to late)

i can see the end now. I will get it next time i attempt it. I just need the right tools, and a lot of liquid wrench.

You dont need liqued wrench just a breaker bar and 3 foot extensions. I didnt use no liqued wrench, wd 40 not of that stuff. Just breaker bar and 3 foot extension.

I don't remember if I used 3/8" drive or 1/4" drive. I just remember it was a 10mm deep throat socket. I think it was probably a 1/4" drive though.
