AWR Motor Mount Install

Hey to all who own these beautiful creations. Does anyone have any spell trick they used to get the rear mount out (one closest to firewall) Let me tell you the front one by radiator took me only about 10 minutes once I had it setup rea easy. The back one,
SH!T i have gone more than six hours combined and still no luck. I had to cut this one plastic piece right above the mount because it is impossible to reach a 10mm bolt right above it. I had actually up to 2 of the 3 bolts from mount off then 3rd bolt wouldnt come loose, started to strip on top of bolt. Hopefully I can get it out, but if any of you can tell me how they did it, like when to lift engine when to take out certain bolt.

well my friend just told me that when he changes his he takes a hydrolic jack (the ones that can hold 2 tons) and find a strong point on the bottom of the motor and just put the jack there to hold it in place while you take the mount off. hope that helps

I have the mounts but my situation was different than most because I put them in while the engine was out of my car. And after seeing the engine back in the car, I can't see how it could be done without removing the engine. Atleast not without alot of headaches.
Best luck to you on your quest. (thumb)

I have given up on it. I have the front one in. That was easy. I just took a breaker to it because that is one tight bolt. I put my jack under the block and slid the awr in there and tightened it up. The back is a totally different story. I have a feeling that isn't going in for a long time. Maybe when I put my clutch and flywheel in I can ask the techs to do it for me for an extra couple dollars.(Oh yeah and hooray for my first post since june)

I haven't put my rear mount in either ,but idid notice that you can access the bolts from the right wheel well . you will have to remove the tire . You also will need access to a hoist .
I was able to get the 3 top nuts but couldn't get the lower 3 as I only had the car on stands . Mazda really tightened these bolts . I am hoping to try the rear again once i can get the car on a hoist . I will post if I am successful

The way we did it was one person got on top of the engine, and I was under it, and we did a combination, of rocking the engine, just stay with it. It will work, but it is a pain in the ass.

hey

can someone do a bit of a run down on how they installed the rear engine mount? that would be fantastic (and we should get it posted to the how-to section).

another q with the engine mount, has anyone found it creeks a little (that's the only way i can describe it) when you go on and off the throttle? any remedies appart from oil/lubricant?

later

BUMP!!!

hey, guys, was your front mount torqued WAY down? i cannot get the damn thing free for the life of me. any tips on getting the front one installed?

my front mount wasnt too hard to get off...just a bit of wd40 and elbow grease....but i used a torquing wrench to put it back on. it aint going anywhere quick. i'm going to try and get my rear mount done when i have the head off getting ported

I did it in 40 minutes but I explained it 3 to 4 times and will not explain it again. It is not as hard as everyone thinks or alot of people are just learning to work on cars. Its harder to change 350 under header spark plugs then our rear mount.

i would love to install mine. JAJE emailed AWR and they told him what wrenches to have. It consisted of extensions and swivels. I have all the right tools just have not trried to tackel it to many times.

i am waiting for lift access.

I printed out what twizyours posted on gettting the rear motor mount in and hopefully will be attempting the install this weekend. I put my front one in with no problems using directions he posted. A breaker bar made getting the factory bolts off of the front mount so very easy, highly recommended.

Heck I'd do the mount over just about any camaro plugs, like an lt-1 :wtf: were they thinking???

Tell me about it. Just four spark plugs on the driver side took me 40 minutes it was also the first time doing it. Learned that you have to take out 2 to 3 from up top and the others out the bottom. I think they were thinking that people would rather bring it to themthen taking it out. Seriousy even in a engineering standpoint I cant see how putting spark plugs under the headers is good. All that extra heat about 1/2 inch away from the wire and plug.

I just installed my front one today. WOW, what a huge difference. The car should have come like this from the factory.

As for the rear one, I am going to pull my intake, throttle body, and strut bar and go in from the top. Perhaps I'll get some pics for you guys and maybe write up a how to. Cheers,
Moose
