AWR header cel light fix!!

Hey all..

I found this company that sells a mil eliminator for the Protege.
Put this part on this weekend and my engine light is gone! :D
It's been about 200 miles and still nothing. I'm sooo happy.
The parts guy, Dan Smith, was very helpful. He will start a full webpage for Proteges soon. For now, I used this part from a Subaru. Worked great!

Super simple install. A few wires to connect and that's it.
Best part it's only $20.95.
Some of you will say, just go to radio shack and get the parts there. Well, radio shacks parts are ghetto. This part is tesed for O2 sensors. Not "whatever" parts.

If any of you have a cel light I urge you to buy this part.
Works great!!

HELLO!

This is the same part I tested for the MSP and have been running for close to 2 months now!Where have you been ?I have posted much info on this item. You just weren't paying attention. The part you are using was originally designed to work on a WRX.It uses the same O2 sensor as the pro's.
I have been doing multiple posts here of late about this same thing.Maybe everyone will now understand what I have been saying for a while now
I HOPE!

Really? I guess I will have to pay more attention, eh?
Did you have any problems with this part?
How do you like it?

Mine is working great, so far so good.

Hey Patrick!

No prob!
I have been running this for well over 1100+miles now with no probs what so ever.If it was the O2 that was setting the CEL because of cat efficiency ,then yes you should have no further prob's!
Matt:)

I'd think ALL of them are the same. Anyone have a ohm meter and check the resistance before you installed them? I should get into that business. 21 bux for 5 cents worth of parts, 2 minutes of labor, and 50 cents for postage.

I can gaurentee you could not get these parts for .5 cents. Maybe a couple a bucks, but not .5 cents. Also, they have a warrenty where as if I were to do this myself, I would have nothing to back it up if something weird happens.

(hmm) While it may change the voltage difference between the 2 sensor, I wonder if it will alow you to pass emissions? Judging by the following on the NASIOC forums, probably not:

I recently bought and installed the Pony express MIL eliminator. Since I have installed it (about 3 weeks ago) my catalyst monitor has been in "not ready" mode. I'm not trying to bring this up again, but i was rejected for emissions because of this fact. Is it this mod that, instead of essentially fixing the CEL, it just makes the catalyst monitor not ready, and if it's not ready it cannot read a CEL.

I'll answer this directly.

Our product is not meant to fool emissions testing stations, and is for off road use only (Racing Purposes)

If you want to legally pass emissions, put your stock componentry back on, test the vehicle, pass, and put your performance gear back on.

If you would like to discuss this further feel free to email us directly.

That is why this is the one I am thinking of getting:

Not sure how it will fare for emissions testing, but we'll see!

thanks again matt for showing me apex motorsports, although ben IS a little hard to get ahold of

LINUX! I know you know better than to make a statement like this one!
NO CAR will pass the "SNIFFER" aka emissions test with out the cats on it.It will show way too much un burnt fuel in the system and fail every time. This product is to simply fool your computer into thinking it(the cats) is there so as not to throw a CEL and possibly throw the ECU into a "limp" mode (if this type of CEL will do that ,I don't think so but I could be wrong)

Thats all I got to say on this subject.

I'll break it down for you. Almost all of those MIL eliminators are just resistors and some wire.

For resistors, if you buy 1000 the price per resistor is $.005,shrink tubing is $.03/in, and wire is no more than $.11/ft. So .01+.09+.22= $.32. . Labor, I'd guess some minimum wage high schoolers making 5.50/hr. So another $.18 for labor. So a total of FIFTY CENTS. So I was exaggerating a bit. But do you get my point?

As for the warranty:

"All of our electronic products are guaranteed to be free from defects for 1 year from the date of purchase. If within 1 year a product ceases to function correctly (after all troubleshooting techniques have been exhausted), contact your dealer for an exchange. Products with damaged circuits and/or wiring, and/or broken componentry will not be accepted for exchange. "

Well since the thing is JUST a resistor and wire, which is a basic circuit I doubt the would take it back-besides even if they did exchange it-they are still making a hell of a profit. Did you install it yourself, cause they would say you messed the install up if anything happened to your car.

As for the Lake Effect one, I'd try to find out exactly which RISC processor it uses. Just to make sure it actually is what they say. Computer control is getting kinda annoying on cars these days

The thing is that I have a hi-flo cat on my car, just in the wrong location.

No prob, got to do something at work. I actually have a catalog and looked the stuff up. I hate factory engine management! And I love it too, works pretty good on stock cars, but mod and you are almost always screwed. What I was thinking is put the O2 sensors before and after the 2nd cat, of course that wouldn't work if you have no cats... Just need an inexpensive plug and play stand alone....

i just got my CEL today with my racingmazda headers, exactly how does this fix install?

It splices into the O2 sensor harness. You might have a problem w/o either cat. Not sure though. It'd be nice if someone cut the shrink tubing off and check the resistors in it. I could make them REALLY cheap-if I knew the values....
