AWD---The wheels are turning

One thing I did want to see...

Can you get a good pic of the floorboard near the firewall and possibly measure the distance from the kick panel to where the center channel is (on the left side of the car)? I'm worried that the I will have to widen the center channel in the car and I don't have much room to spare with the gas pedal being right beside it. I need to see how different it is. You might be my saving grace.

Hey, I have posted a few pics on my cardomain site for you to have a look at. From what you have said I think that there may be slight differences in our cars. For starters my drive shaft goes down the centre channel and the exhaust is off to the right side ( i assume your exhaust runs down the middle?) Anyway I will try get those other photos and measurement for you when the bloody rain stops. Hope this helps...Mike

Cool...I got it from your profile. Those pics are great. The jar of knowledge gets a little more full. Thanks for helping out.

I even said "Wow" when he told me the price. I was expecting much more money. I'll be speaking more with him in the next few weeks. He said if I needed it done in a hurry it would cost more. He also said that he has been treating several clutches for drag racing and have found that it increases clutch life without any ill effects. He also treats brake pads and rotors and was told by several police agencies that instead of getting 8,000 miles out of the pads on the pursuit cars they were getting 23,000 miles on the treated pads.
cryo treat your turbo too

Hehe, I was thinking about beefing up an old 90-91 AWD Protege... but I don't really want to spend the money.

so how much approximately are you expecting to spend?
I just got off the phone with Derrick and he hasn't gotten a $ figure yet. All the drivetrian stuff is still in Japan. At this point I'm not in a hurry since I've been doing some AutoX and I'm going to at least finish out this season before I tear the car down. Once I have my AutoX setup finished (I still need tires and motormounts) I'll get back to putting money away for the tranny. I just had to spend $700 to rebuild the neck on my guitar so I'm a little short this month.

What kind of guitar???
s1520.jpg

Ibanez S1520. I had to have a new neck built from scratch. There weren't any replacement necks available in the US and it was going to take several monthes to a year to get one from Ibanez in Japan since they won't ship them one at a time.

hum all i can say is thats freakin outstanding, if i had the money and time and another vehicle to drive, no doubt about it i would have that sucker in gettin AWD, TURBO, the whole freakin works. but there in lies my prob. i'm a poor military bastard going to freakin england. so looks like i'll be stuck w/a reg. p5, and only dreams of what could be

mad props to you man. great to see some fuckers DOIN s***, i am so sick of these guys with the "got a new exhaust!" or "new shifter" who ******* cares. do some real mods.

im still debating rather to do the lentech tranny conversion but 7 grand... damn.

its great though but to get 300 whp out of AWD is gonna take a lot! but good luck. go with hiboost it will get you past 300 whp easy. hehe. but yes you will kill lots of sti's and evo's, evos arent that quick, i have driven both ALOT. our cars wont handle like an sti but mad props, very sweet, and take LOTS O PICS!

oh i thought this was a awd conversion thread, not a pinto with a 5 foot high ass end thread.

peace- trav

turbop5 said it cost him 2000 to get his tranny cryo treated, and he put his transmission together himself x.x wtf
That can't be right...nitrotechusa here in Phoenix will do my entire engine for less than $600. That is complete motor, flywheel/clutch, transmission. Tranny alone is like $150.

That is exactly what I was quoted. I live in the Nascar capitol of the world and the guy I went through does most of the Nascar series team's work as well as many of the local Pro level drag racers.

so whats the status as of now?
Everything is on hold right now due to me Autocrossing all this Summer and Fall. Hopefully, the actual wrenching will begin sometime in November. Until then I'm just trying to gather as much information on everything as I can and saving as much money as I can.

the best to get this done is just go to Japan and pick a sport20 w/ AWD and all the goodies.
