AWD---The wheels are turning

Not much new....I have too many other projects to do this right now. I'll have the Pro5 paid off next year and then I start my RX-7 build. If the RX-7 gets finished in a reasonable amount of time I think I might just look at this again for the fun of it.

did you ever consider having an entire car imported? i don't know what they go for used, or what kind of duties/taxes are paid, but it seems much of the difficulty of the conversion could be kept to a minimal if a whole car was brought it, and then once it was here, you get it turbo'ed and all those goodies.

i can't say i know the place to go to have something like that done either - corksport seems to only have engines and such available as opposed to whole cars.

there are websites that import used cars here in canada (www.importconcern.ca www.jns-imports.com). I'm sure you can find the same thing for the US

There's a stupid law here in canada that says you're not allowed to import any car unless it was either made for North America (ie, import from the US) or at least 15 years old. So all the cars on those websites are probably at least 14 and a half years old, but i know you don't have that kind of laws down there so i'm sure there's a company that can get a used Japanese P5 for you

good call. i'll see what a google search yields.

Anyone with a bank account could import one, but the cost would still be huge. I would have more fun building one and then I would have the only left hand drive AWD Protege. For me it's just about being different.

subscribing (and bringing this thread back from the dead!) ;-)

The idea of the AWD P5 is in my head since I bought the car... and now with the MSP engine, this project sounds more and more interesting...

he is no longer doing the swap because it would put him into an auto-x class he cannot compete in

And my finances are tapped out for the rest of this year. i won't be looking good financially until late next year, but I'll be knee deep in an IT7 1st Gen RX-7 by then. This is always in the back of my mind though. It's not a done deal.

an awd swap to me means going an extra 6 feet to my dads outback. i wish i can do a swap your way jred321

Anyone find out what it would take to import the awd version over here? Not talking about canadian laws, but US?

Probably about $5,000 for everything. Only a few minor things would need special fabrication (exhaust, driveshaft support)

I was talking a complete awd sport20, but thanks though. 5k doesn't seem bad at all to me... for 12k someone could have awd w/mam built motor and thumper. Seems like a very very unique car to me.

That would be a dream car within my reach.
If only it would be reliable..
