AWD---The wheels are turning

I know this was from a long time ago, but the STi makes 300hp and puts down over 250 to the wheels stock and that's here in hot humid TX, and I know this because a friend of mine had his dynoed 2 weeks ago on a Mustang dyno. The Evo makes 280hp. The STi is also heavier, yet faster than the Evo. Good luck on this project, it will be sweet when you finish it up.

STI's are 230hp...EVO's make more but both cars weigh a lot more than the Pro5 even with the AWD weight. Bridges have to be crossed when we get there. Hiboost makes 250+ hp at 12psi. A built motor with EMS should be able to handle 18-20 lbs daily. I'm no math genius, but that ought to get me in the ballpark.

You are wrong, WRX STI's make 300 horsepower, the WRX makes 230 hp

We're talkin whp not what the factory rates the sti at the flywheel. With the Hiboost kit, they are putting down 250+ at the wheels. Combine that with a lighter vehicle....... You get the picture. ;)

yah and I heard the STi's didnt make 250 at the wheels, I heard their drivetrain loss was pretty substantial and they were making more in the 225-235whp range on dynojet dyno's....now I have also heard of mustang dynos puting out different numbers but that is pretty significant difference there.

Also the P5 with all wheel drive will not be that much of a weight advantage over the STi. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything against the guy. I think it's a great idea, and if I ever have the time and money, I would probably try to do the same thing. Also, the STi weighs more than the EVO and is faster, so how could the EVO's hp be greater?

280whp on a lighter protege = 11.5 w/slick or 12.1 w/street tires

In my opinion the weight dif between an AWD sport20 and FWD is not that significant - 90kg. I guess would make the same difference as a passenger.

I've been thinking about this some more and I'm not going to do this to the Pro5, but I may consider getting a salvage sedan shell with straight body and work with that. It seems a little more logical since no one knows how much hacking will have to be done. I would rather do it to something I only paid a few hundred bucks for instead of 20k. There will also be at least another 100+lbs weight loss.

When you get this done Elder, I'm driving up to hi pont and I'll but you gas if you'll drive me around in a AWD Mazda(silly)

does that mean ur giving up on the idea?
NOOOOOOOO, plz dont.
I'm not giving up on this, but it won't get done as soon as I had hoped. Someone else might beat me to it. With my AutoX Pro5 and my new RX-7 project this journey has to take a back burner for a while. I'm starting to run into a finacial setback and I'm also running out of room to put cars. Once I get out of this slight little hole of too many projects and not enough funding...I'll be more motivated to start the build.

just out of curiousity, about how much would it cost to get an awd protege in japan if you say , are stationed there in the US Mil.. shipping it back wouldnt be a problem..

thats if i get stationed in Japanese, I am gonna try my hardest though..

Um, I think you have it a little backwards. Buying it there wouldn't be that big of a problem. Getting it to the States would be the problem.

You will not be able to register it in the US. Not to mention, the government will not ship a car overseas. To Hawaii, maybe. From Hawaii, depends. From Japan, no way...

you can ship a car from basically anywhere to anywhere. It's just gonna be a whole s*** load of money to ship it in a big ass crate. Call a shipping company, but I think it is not worth it. Plus, I don't know what kind of trouble you would run into over here to be able to rejister it for road use. If you wanna keep it as a track car than you don't have to worry about that.

kool, i was wonderin cause we got skylines riding around .. they are only for Japanese..
if i do get shiped there, hoping, i might just fix my car up with there parts..

the reason we have skylines is because there is a company that takes them and adds all the needed safety stuff for them to be street-legal in the States. I can't remember the name of the company, but I did some research on this when a friend of mine was thinking about buying one. You can buy the car fairly inexpensively in Japan (35-40K), but having it brought to US street-legal specs, shipping, and exclusivity is what drives the price up to 75-100K for R34. R32's can be had for around 40-50 and I like the R32 better anyway's :-D Just thought I'd throw that out there at you.

shane, just contact corksport or xelerX(since i'm sure he has tones of info), and find out what you need, to the very last bolt. Then install it on your car.

oo, damn, thought i could since i get to ship my car if i go to a non remote location..
Sort of, but not over seas. And not for a temporary duty station.

There is a lot of jargon involved on that one.

Also, Skylines we have in the States are not coming from Japan. They are out of Australia. Yes, they are built in Japan, imported for sale in Australia. And sold in Australia to the company that imports them here, puts CARB legal emissions equipment on it and there you go.

Yes, you can technically ship a car anyway, but the freight costs from Japan to the US are expensive. And, yes you can technically not touch it and claim it as a track car only. They were doing that with the Lotus a couple years back. But, there is still a lot of PITA paper work do that.
