The other thread is pointless until page 9. (ATTN)-Mods it should be removed from sticky!!!
Why its 4+ yrs old and a ton has changed for the auto trans community, I think stock they are weak but the m6 has the same trans and 170hp they are holding up,and with the focus having the same trans and a lot of built foci around now we can get the parts we need.Lentech -http://www.lentechautomatics.com/fwdmodels.html has many parts available and in different power ranges. They sell 3 different trans form street to strip, I the first two still have the upgraded stock converters the third has the 23 spline hd converter. Id buy the street terminator I was quoted $1699 Plus lentechs have LIFETIME Warranty!_Alto has the rebuilt clutch kits that update the 3 to 5 frictions for better performance and clamping force and less heat.

Here is pretty good article about a focus trans overhaul-
http://www.musclemustangfastfords.com/tech/0311mm_focus/
Here's the valvebody install
http://protege5.ugly.net/05-17.PDF
and there are other parts available, the days of selling your auto are gone, get it rebuilt, get a better valve body, boost it up and go racing If you price a good clutch and gtx gears rebuild in a manual at a shop its gonna cost close to the same. Some people have good luck with manuals others break them a lot, and some say autos are better, I like my auto and plan on boosting it with stock trans and then rebuilding it when, if it blows.
Lets sticky this and quit scaring all the auto owners away from boosting..

very good info there...i know that recently there have been more and more of us autos going to the darkside so this is very good info to have...and it helps to share a very similar transmission to the focus, which seems to be getting most of the development when compared to the proteges...

nice..

yeah indeed that true i just entered the dark side last week and installed a lentech valve body and the car is holding great at 7 psi totally diferent car and iam with asmo with should not scare the auto guys out and get more auto to enter the darkside...

awsome

they just feel much tighter and faster too just a delay in the 1rst gear going to second but its ok it is a very nice upgrade for the tranny also simple to install.also ill be considering getting the altos clutch in the future and some other parts from him as for the converter some people told me that it is not direct swap but iam not sure yet havnt seen anybody did a converter swap for the 4F27E Transaxle.

really good info guys..... thanks.

I'm considering a rebuild by end of summer so this info has been quite helpful...

I just bought a book from the atsg on the rebuild.. i hope that will be helpful as well.

I guess i hope that the casing is still good and that it's just the internals that need some upgrading.

I don't suppose there is a handy list of items that one would need to do the job?

if theres a how-to on removing the tranny without removing the engine that would be good stuff...

well i got the manual... it looks good.. easy pics to understand.. basically, it's a really good how-to..heh.. only problem.... those peeps sent me the manual en espanol..... which is an issue because Canada's second language isn't spanish. lol

ps. happy Canada Day!

bump...is this the same as the shop manual and would u kindly upload it for reference please?

Just for reference.... what would be the price range on everything I would need... and would it be better to upgrade the Tran's prior to boosting ?

Here are all the parts to replace all the wear parts in the transmission:
1. Motorcraft part# MTKV-K4600-B - this kit includes all new pistoms, o-rings, gaskets, even the frictions and the steels, everything but the 2-4 band; or MTK-46900-B (cheaper, but not sure if that kit has the bonded pistons). You will not use the frictions and steels from the master kit if you are also buying the upgraded Alto clutches.
Now for the frictions and steels, I sugest:
2. Alto part# 133750AHPPWR - this includes all Red Eagle frictions and Kolene steels and also includes the direct clutch Powerpack upgrade
3. Alto part# 133960 - this is an upgrade Red Eagle band that is not included in the other kits. Alto also offers these bands in "heavy duty wide- Red" and "heavy duty wide- kevlar" (part#s 133961, 133961K)

Here is the cost breakdown:
Motorcraft master rebuid kit $175
Alto part# 133750AHPPWR $175
Alto part# 133960 ~$20
Total cost $370

well boys and girls, my quest to the darkside has officially begun(peep) and sooner than I thought. I have been waiting for 5 years to do this.

I've pretty much got my paws on a semi complete FS-DE engine. I intend to completely rebuild/upgrade, port/polish and semi-forge it. It will be mated with a re-inforced A/T and it shall be turbo'd!!!

Now i just have to find a used 4F27E(ughdance)

Good luck Greyman,
I didnt include the converter or valvebody prices, those are up to you I dont plan on using the valve body, with the manual sportshift I can control shifting when I need to and still have D for regular driving.

I have the 2002 non-sportshift....would I need the Converter & Valvebody ?

Right on, thanks. How much boost are you planning to run? I'm gonna shoot for 10 psi, but gradually. When things get rolling, i'm going to post a build thread.

Could you get the prices for the converter and valvebody? I didn't see em on the websites...(uhm)
