Autocross in IL : Anyone else out there?

Last year I hit two autocrosses in Washington DC with the SCCA. This year I've only had the opportunity to get to one in my Miata this year. I've been holding the speed3 as just a daily driver, but was very impressed with its factory suspension on the courses.

Does anyone in this area autocross frequently? What clubs do you participate with and what locations do you go to?

Nope! Not me... I'm more of a straight line speed person (or at least with the MS3, if I had a Miata that would be different).

Windy City Miata pretty much runs s*** around here. SCCA Chicago does their thing out here, too.

Both are pretty well organized and run a good number of events.

I ran at a windy city event last year that was a lot of fun- just don't have the money for brakes and tires every two months, so I haven't been that active.

I'm a member of WCMC actually . I joined in '05-06 iirc and ran a lot that summer. Since graduating college in Spring of '07, I was not in this area, but slowly getting involved again this summer. This past weekend I won the C-Class for the naturally aspirated 94-97's, but only out of 4 cars in that class. Many of the members jumped up to superchargers this summer and populated that class . I won't make this upcoming weekend at Tire Rack due to vacation, but plan to be at the next autocross after that.

I got into it after running as a guest in my buddy's rx-8. I have done my 3 in the U class at CLC one time... but money as prohibited it much beyond that.

Like I said, would definitely like to be more involved.

I have to talk to my better half, but as long as we can keep the costs reasonable I'm in.

looks like costs are:

$35 X 2 = $70 +
$69.95 + tax = $79.04 or for 2 nights $158.08

I guess if we share the room casts it will be less than $300 including food. Not to bad all things considered.

Looks like it is 120 or so miles each way. Not that bad either.

A few years back, I participated in the Tire Rack weekend autocross. The club runs an excellent autocross and draws a very friendly and helpful crowd. This past weekend everyone got 13 runs . I have a wedding that weekend and vacation to San Diego otherwise I'd be going too .

I used to autocross my 1990 Jetta, but now I autocross my buddy's 1991 CRX from time to time. I've raced with the SCCA, Salt Creek Sports Car Club, Chicago VW Org, etc and it's a ton of fun and there are ALWAYS races going on in Chicagoland.
