Auto-Off Headlights US iTouring Value

I just bought the Mazda3 iTouring Value sedan. I did not realize it did not have auto-off headlights. After many years of driving a car with this feature , i find myself missing it. I know that other models of the the mazda3 sedan have this option. Is it possible to install this aftermarket, and if so what do I need to do it?

Note: I don't need the headlights to come automatically (daylight sensing is not necessary - although it would be nice if they could pop on when I unlock my door like the Accord does) but I would like them to turn off say 30 seconds after I turn off my car.

the 08.5 Mazdaspeed3 does not have auto-off headlights. I mean, they have the "Auto" setting which turns them on when dark and presumably off when you kill the car, but in my past three cars, the lights turned themselves off no matter what when you turn the key to OFF.

if your good with electronics here is the howto for the protege, the principle is the same the wiring colour might be a bit different but very likely the same as well.

my 2008.5 MS3 GT has auto on/off headlights and windshield wipers...they both work fine...

The Scion cars have this feature. Basically if you turned your lights on and forgot to turn them off when you shut the car off, it will kill the lights automatically. I don't even use my auto headlights. In my humble opinion, HIDs arnt meant to be turned on and off rapidly.

Just got a new GT MS3, what a dumb feature! They are auto on but not off. If the switch is in auto they turn on in the garage and are on all the way to work on a sunny day. Don't think I want to buy a new set of HID's prematurely.

The auto wipers seems just as bad, they run on a dry windsheild and don't speed up fast enough when it is pouring. Looks like it is more trouble to override these features than it is to control them manually.

I've not had a problem with my headlights turning off when I pull out of my garage...may have a problem with your sensor.

The auto headlights are auto on and off. When they are in the auto area, they will turn on and off with your ignition. Now, I DON'T use auto on off because when I turn my car on, I let it sit in "on" to prime, and the HID's turn on, then they turn off when i'm cranking the engine then fire back on when the car is started. So I don't want to damage the HID's.

My auto wiper sensors had some rain spots dried over the area, and when I turned my car on, they naturally started swiping..how stupid.

my tacoma has an auto off feature in case i leave the lights on when i get out.

but those of you with an ms3 that leave your lights on when you turn the ignition off and get out of your car, how do you not turn them off? my 2008.5 yells at me (loud tone) when i open the door with the lights on and ignition off. this can't be the only model with this feature

and btw, i would take the intermitten wipers over rain sensors any day... can't stand those sensors most of the time

Since having crappy domestics with crappy alternators/starters in the past, i've always put the key in "on" to let the fuel pump activate and basically "prime" the engine is what I imagine it does. Because it's always started easier or quicker, versus just throwing the key in and slamming it straight into "Start" and cranking the engine.

Someone told me with our engines, fuel doesn't start until the engine starts cranking, but I don't know if that's true or not.

maybe the fuel pressure comes up to par when KOEO, but there's no "priming", which i imagine you think is dumping raw fuel into the cylinders. you would do that with a carburetor but not fuel injection

the main thing that happens is initializing of the ECU and sensors. That's why it always starts 'faster' if you key it on and wait a second.
