Auto climate and radio replacement

I just picked up my Grand Touring, which is in desperate need of an audio update to the standard system. I have the automatic climate control. Does the display for the temperature, fan speed, etc. run through the stock radio, like it did on my Mazda6, or can you replace the head unit with an aftermarket with no loss of the display?

I know others that have put in an after market head unit and the clock stayed. I don't know enough about stereo installs to even guess why some kept the clock while others didn't.

It might stay, but it may not be adjustable, in which case you'd probably want to cut the wire to the clock. Most head units have their own clock anyway.

I also recently purchased a cx-7 gt and I was looking into installing a nav system (either the pioneer D3 or the Z2). I had a question about the lcd screen and the steering wheel controls (which I just posted). I was also concerned about the climate control read-outs as well. I placed a call into crutchfield about any harnesses available for the cx-7. Hopefully, I will get a response soon. Keep me posted on your research...I will do the same.

Rich-I just ordered a D3 from Crutchfield and they did include the standard Mazda harness which folks on here have used and Scosche confirmed to be the correct one to use. Crutchfield had a special running where if you ordered 3 Pioneer products you got 15% off, so I got the D3 w/bluetooth, camera & XM, and with 15% off it was only about $50 more than ebay, but I'll gladly pay that for Crutchfield's customer service.

Thanks for the note. By the way, PAC indeed makes a interface switch/harness for the steering wheel controls. Part Number: SWI-PS . The SWI-PS allows you to keep the use of their steering wheel on the CX-7when replacing the factory head unit. You can also assign the buttons on the steering wheel to any of the 9 specific Pioneer functions. Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute, Track Up, Track Down, Source, Preset Up, Preset Down and Band. The SWI-PS also has non-volatile memory which keeps all programming in memory even if the vehicle battery is disconnected.
