Auto Breaking Sure Didn't Work For Me

I was in a traffic situation that I thought would have surely lent itselft to to the auto breaking system: slow moving stop and go, rolling forward, stopping, rolling forward again. I looked down as I was rolling forward again when suddenly the auto breaking alarm sounded and in the next millisecond, bang, I rear ended the car in front of me.

The only credit I can give to the system is that maybe I would have hit the car in front harder without it? Dunno. Any way sure didn't work for me and of course I have to pay for the damage.

Now I'm dubious of what of scenarios the feature could be considered useful.

if you are going slow it does not work...my guess is you were under the speed at which it is designed for. I believe it does not work under 10 mph..

Last December I got rear-ended by an old Camry at low speed. It happened when we rolled slowly through the intersection after the light turned green. The impact felt as strong as what was shown in this video. The Camry driver/owner's insurance ended up paying around $9K for the repair and loaner (3 weeks). I chose a shop that provided a more reasonable quote. The first shop I went to was charging $400+ per hour on labor. Collision is expensive. The only driver-assist feature on my Mazda is the BSM, but I still turn my head and check every time. 😅
