Hey everyone its my first post here but i have been reading this forum for awhile it's great! I have an 03 protege5 here recently i peplaced the stock speakers all around with memphis speakers (Mc57 Front MC60 in back 50 RMS 100 Peak) .. our local audio store had a good deal on them... anyways I have a JL 10w0 powerwedge on the way and i was curious what amp I would need to purchase to power this and I would also like to powere the four memphis speakers to on the same amp. any help greatly apprecatiated.. also is there a place where someone has documented installation on an amp on the protege5? maybe with pictures? :D thanks guys

it may help but i listen to a lot of hard rock... not to much rap but just like to feel the thick Metal! haha sorry

are you sure you want to run all that s*** off one amp? If so then you are looking at even more money for a nice 5 channel amp. It would be cheaper and most likely better to run a 4 channel amp to your memphis speakers, then a small mono or 2 channel to the JL 10W0.

I see what you mean that way and I do want to go the cheaper route can you please recommend 2 amps at a decent price range

Very few companies still make a 5 channel amp that isn't much money. If you can get your hands on the Alpine MRP-F320 then GET IT. Used to be $250 retail before it was discoed last year. VERY good amp, just ask Sir Nuke. :D

Otherwise the alpine MRP-F240 and MRP-T220 would be my route, they will cost, retail, about $325 together.

ha yeah that's what I'm hoping also! thanks for the help on the amps though i found a couple places online that say they carry the 5 channel alpine for around $200... thanks again man

The only thing to do to make the install easier if you have a factory radio is to get the normal and reverse metra wiring harnesses. That way you don't have to cut any wires.

Online car stereo has the MRP-F320 for 229$, I hear they're trust worthy. Be careful about some of the other cheap online stores and Ebay.

Thanks guys.. Im going to order those kits online.. our local shop said I needed some kind of converter since the stock unit does not have RCA jacks... so the two metra kits will take care of that? cool im going to order that amp soon also

You don't need those converters with the alpine amps as they have speaker level inputs.

Hey 1st, I got a quick question...

Which is a better scenerio to reduce noise and increase SQ?

1) run good-quality speaker wire from the stock unit and plug it into the high-level-input ready amplifier(s)
2) convert the signal to low-level at the stock head unit and send it through high-quality RCAs to the amplifier (using the RCA input of course).

Asuming that price is no concern I see an advantage to option 2 because I can add an eq later, but with it reduce the SQ?

The quality of the amps built in and the external LOCs will be the likely determining factor. Also some cars with just not work with either. 97 Mercedes come to mind as do Volvos with rear batteries.

I can't find a 71-7903 Metra kit online... i found the 70-7903 no prob but metra doesnt recognize the other kit number... is this right or am i not looking in the right place...

hi Alpo and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

Listen to 1st....he knows of what he speaks...and YES if you can get the Alpine 5 channel snag it!! I did the very install you are speaking of....I still have my factory 6 disc changer, upgraded all the door speakers and have the 10W0 powerwedge....and I am running it all off of the 5 channel amp. I love it. I really don't think you can go wrong with that set up.
