ATX cooler?

I also wonder what is considered the "danger zone" for trans fluid temps. I am starting to think that the issue with the transmission in the later model 5 may be one of an under spec'ed fluid, rather than a truly defective transmission. If the 3 and the 5 share a trans and the fluid remains the same in spite of the fact that the trans in the 5 is bearing more weight, and therefore more load/heat, it stands to reason that the 5 would suffer failures. Or at least tend to discolor/wear the fluid more quickly. I will be watching my temps closely in the coming months. for the gentleman from up north, the SGII (Scangauge II) is a godsend if you want to keep a close eye on your cars vitals. I wouldn't drive without one!

Secondtyme, I'll look into it. I use my 5 rather conservatively, which is hard since it is fun to drive. It has 22 000 kms (13200 miles) now.

This is my second 5 (hence the screen-name) and I am actually using this one much more conservatively than i did the first one. Something about knowing what i stand to lose this time around. The SGII is useful in all sorts of ways, not the least of which is its ability to track fuel economy. Now if only I could get the "fuel level" X-gauge to work LOL

This chart may or may not help

It really does actually! Thanks for that. I didn't really have any idea what a "healthy" temp was for an automatic trans. The last auto i drove was a 1976 Dodge LOL

Anybody know which cooler lines are the output/return from the trans? Thinking about adding a cooler also, but at the least i'm gonna do an at home flush.

The output from the auto transmission cooler is on the Right side when facing it from the front (Driver's side). Looks my magnafine filter is weeping at the screw together joint, not as bad as the older model, will be watching (detect) it!
