I also wonder what is considered the "danger zone" for trans fluid temps. I am starting to think that the issue with the transmission in the later model 5 may be one of an under spec'ed fluid, rather than a truly defective transmission. If the 3 and the 5 share a trans and the fluid remains the same in spite of the fact that the trans in the 5 is bearing more weight, and therefore more load/heat, it stands to reason that the 5 would suffer failures. Or at least tend to discolor/wear the fluid more quickly. I will be watching my temps closely in the coming months. for the gentleman from up north, the SGII (Scangauge II) is a godsend if you want to keep a close eye on your cars vitals. I wouldn't drive without one!
