Alright, so I'm struggling with what to do with my new sub box. I've got an eD12a currently sitting in a GHETTO sealed box. Time to step up. 'd like ot do fiverglass and keep it clean, but the other part of mesays "fuggit, more boom" SO Ideally I'm thinking that I could possibly make a half-fiberglassed box to use all of my space best, but still port it. I know this'll mess with things a bit, and Ideally i'll need actual box volume before I can even play the port game. Mostly the thing that concerns me is the reccomended ported box is HUGE 1.5' (okay that's doable), 56" of 1.75x13" vent.. granted this is for 25hz. How can I go about making my port volume less?would simply switching to 30hz tuning help? smaller ports would mean shorter as well, yes? am I gonna suffer from port noise if I go smaller Also would I be shooting myself in the foot to go with a smaller volume for a ported?

Ideally I'll fiberglass a box into the right rear side (like a couple otehrs have, and then port it out under the floor and perhaps wrap around.so fairly flat would be preferable...

Pos, you've gotta figure out a way to half glass and half MDF it. It'll be one funky ass looking box, but I think you could do it. You can always bondo over the MDF to get whatever shapes you want.

As for tuning...I say, keep it low. You could probably go up at least a couple Hz, to 28, but I'm not sure that it's totally worth it. It'll really depend on your taste in music...if you've got stuff that'll play really low frequencies, it's better to stay lower. But for mostly rock and even techno, I think 30hz is generally fine. As for port noise, I think linear team (the guys that make WinISD) have some stuff on their site for figuring that stff out.

Cool, yea my thoughts are that I could fiberglass the rearflush up against the right rear corner, then do MDF for the top/front and some of the sides, and then have my flat-port sortof coming out from the bottom and running under the floor. This is all seeming like ALOT of effort for a slacker like myself, but who knows, I might get around to making it happen... The most difficult part would seem to be getting my volume in the box correct.

And, yes I realise 1.5 isn't huge, but I'm really fighting to keep my space clearedup for bikewheels, boardboots, heltmets gear, etc... and in that regaurd every little inch hurts. I may just concede on the ported idea and go for a simple, clean 1' sealed setup

Really I'm just trying to figure if there's a way I can do this with less port size somehow, and at that howmuch I coudl go down. I do listen to some stuff that drops drops, and seriously enjoy that, so I'd like to definately keep it below 30hz.

Sothen, about WinISD, howmuch does it cost? I think I'll prolly end up needing that to get everything figured out right.

build the box so your port is on the outside of the box. now you won't have to take into account the volume the port takes up so your box can be as small as possible and just have the port be rectangular and run it across the floor as far as u need it.

id just make it sealed. its sooo much easier. although you dont quite get the same out of the low notes as with ported.

^^^ very good suggestion(yippy) to find the actual volume of the fiberglass part, make it, and fill it full of packing peanuts. then put the peanuts in a 12x12x12 box made of carboard to simulate 1 cubic ft. then design the port accordingly. you can make it longer or shorter by adjusting the freq and the port area.

just an idea --- take a look

look under store --

don't waste your money. there's a company that has a transmission line design for diamond 10's and 12's that work much better.

look under the multimedia tab. one brahma 12 with 1000 watts going a 142.9 dB. nothing fancy about that at all. i had one power acoustik MOFO 15 with a 1200 watt amp doing a 151.2 in a transmission line box at 40 hz. and my brahma 10 destroyed their 12(yippy)

Wow, somehow I lost this thread.. Thanks guys, and yea that was my intent, sorry Make a blo in the rear corner then run my port out under-floor from there. I'm figuring it's gonna take up alot of space in porting, but it should be alright. If this does manage to happen, it's gonna be one funky box. I'm actually on the packing peanuts thign already in a way. trying to figure out what general size to make the blob, I've got a garbage bag that I'm gonna try to get 1.5cuf of 'em in, and then stuff it in the corner and see how far out to wants to come. Damn I make things too difficult sometimes...

About WinISD, though. details anyone?

Alright, cool. well I'll post if I actually make any progress onthis. I'm pretty deadset on keeping my spare so that could make things very interesting to say the least.

winisd gets pissed off at some drivers tho... like the si d2... it got nasty pissed at that. gave me some strange measurements. it doesn't like some drivers, so don't rely on it completely.
