Can someone plz make a mini-itx computer for my car for $700... only requirements are 1 ghz or higher and 250gig hd... and maybe a dvd-rom...

well a base carputer runs about $400, you have to use a notebook dvd rom and they're not cheap at all and I can't imagine finding a 250G hdd for $100...so to answer your question...um, no.

If you'd like to lower your hdd size to something a little more reasonable I'm sure you could shave off a bit of the cost and notebook dvd-roms aren't going to be easy to find on the cheap.

it depends on where he wansts to mount it... if he wants to do it the way Ahmad (ELEmental) did it then he can easily do it for that price, but building it to fit in half of the double DIN to use a flip up screen, then you are right, it would cost much more.

Its not as easy as plugging in parts, if you use a DC-DC power supply it requires a LOT of shuffeling of parts and components and some fabrication.. heres pics of mine all cleaned up:

Hey man, that looks pretty clean.

Which mini-itx mobo??? What did you use for the DC-DC PSU? Does it do auto switching?

Thanks!

mobo is the EPIA M1000, the power supply is an opus 150watt with the built in shutdown controller and tank circuit.

and you can go here http://www.mini-itx.com/ and order it in peices or whole, and with the dvd , with a long enough extention it can be a normal size dvd unit in the din slot in the dash, i do suggest mounting the hard drive verticle instead of horizontal to stop the head crashing onto the disk when you hit a large bump, then it will only skip a bit and refind its place. are you going with the touch screen setup or the lot cheaper roller mouse setup (mount it in the centre consol or somewhere) will you have gps, wireless internet and have it hooked up to your automotive computer for realtime changes and logging with a cool graphic for the engine stats (oil pressure ect) , for a base system its damn cheap and its cheaper if you get creative in were you put it and what components you use, remember you will one day have to fix the dvd or the hd (normal parts to go on the carputer due to vibration) so make sure the bits are easy to get and replace then ya won't have to loose the bling to pay for the next fix.
