Atlanta Shop

Hey everybody, I'm going to be Atlanta over christmas visiting family and I'm trying to find a shop that can do work on my car. I've screwed something up in installing a new FMIC and SS AFC and I think I need a "professional" to take care of it. If anybody knows of a good shop in the area let me know. Thanks everybody

These are the guys I've used to help with all my installs and current mods.(See Signature) They are custom fabricating my FMIC and Downpipe and are going to do the install and do my tune (They have a Mustang Dyno)

They are great!
Ask for "Dereck" and tell him "Colt" refered you to them. That's me. :)

Thanks man, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they can help. Greatly appreciate it.

Just curious on what's messed up on your ride. Maybe it's solvable outside of a shop?

We do have some damn fine Mazda mechs that don't charge much if at all. Some even accept chicken sandwiches for payment... so I've heard.

I don't even know what all's messed up, that's part of the problem. I think it's a problem with the air/fuel and something with the vac lines, but I just can't figure it out.

I don't trust the local dealership mechanics after they forgot to put my oil cap back on when I went in to get the oil changed...

Just a thought, but I'm not sure where you'll be towing your car to.. it would be neat to have a mini Mazda meet and try to see if we can figure out what's wrong with his car.. I really don't trust many shops unless they know how the MSP is really supposed to be hooked up (vacuum lines, etc.) and I have yet to find a shop like that. Just a thought though, I'd like to help out if I could. Unless of course you take it to Lethal Injection.. they know how to do stuff.

Ya know Metallic, Lula isn't that far away from where I work and play (Gainesville & Winder). I know we have Jackelope up here as well a few others. Why don't we ever try to create a N. GA meet?

Also, where the hell has Jackelope been?

Lastly, I concur. A mini meet would be fun. I'll keep an eye out for future details on this.

I'm not real familiar with the area as my family just recently moved there, but I'll be in Peachtree City (southside of Atlanta) and the shop I'm thinking of taking it to is in Alpharetta (northside of Atlanta). Where are Lulu and Gainesville?

Lula and Gainesville (and Winder, which is where I actually live) are all way north. Gainesville is about 45 mins. from Alpharetta, Lula is just a wee bit further, and Winder is about 1 hour. Winder is right up there next to Athens (UGA town). Alpharetta is where we do our Thursday Night North Point meets.

Oh ok. Well, I'm not one to really turn down help, so if you guys can think of a good place to meet up I think it'd be cool

so it was never said what makes you think you have a problem in the first place. What are the symptoms you are seeing

So I get home and realize there's no internet...I'm at the library now...

So my symptoms were that the car would stall after it was given gas, or if it was let idle for a minute or so. Once it gets gas, the boost pressure fluctuates wildly, then it tries to die unless I apply the gas again.

I took my car to Topspeed in Alpharetta and dropped it off with them. I'm going back on Friday to see if they've been able to figure out just what the problem is.

Any updates? If my car's idle doesn't get solved after changing/cleaning a few things on my car, then I'm going to guess it's the timing that is off (revs at 2K and doesn't get lower). It's been like this since I got the head replaced and got it back from a shop in Dahlonega, so I'm kinda thinking they didn't know how to set the timing correctly.

So I'll be looking to find a shop as well.. one that actually has done work on the MSP's before so I don't have to worry about them screwing something up.

you can check the timing your self. Pull the valve cover and set the crank to top dead center (there is a mark on the crank and timing cover) and check to see if the mark on the cams line up

have you looked for a vacuum leak?

Yes, it has been like this for a while, haven't driven it after the one time driving it home from the shop. It just idles very high at 2K and never settles down, running extremely rich, black out the tailpipe, etc. I'm going to clean the EGR also, figured that may help as well.. but I'm really wondering about the timing, it wasn't ever like this before I took it to the shop.

Mine ended up mostly being a vacuum problem. Too many things running off the same line. Also, my BPV was busted so the MAF was getting bad readings. The guys at TopSpeed in Alpharetta hadn't worked on an MSP before mine, but they did a pretty good job with it. If you really have to go to a shop up there I'd probably recommend them
