Asking Advice From The Locals

So, My 05 Mazda6 is doing some weird stuff, and it's getting on my nerves.

Question. Anyone have a problem with their heat/ac? For me no matter what direction I have the air flow set to quite a bit of air still flows out of my deforst and my front vents. Drives me nuts. So in the summer if the AC is on the front window likes to fog up on the INSIDE. Any else have this problem? Any ideas?

Second part. Tonight while leaving work I got in the car and there was frost on the INSIDE of the window. Now I know this CAN happen if there is moisture in the car... could this be related? Or do you this this was just a fluke?

I dont like my local dealer (Gorno) they just seem to like to give you the "we will see what we can do after we charge you a bunch" kinda attitude and I would rather try and tackle this myself. Any help would be appreciated.

OK.. well I dont have a 5 but this is pretty much any car related..

You have a switching valve that changes from defrost to vent to floor etc..
Wether manual or electronic this vent can fail and it will be stuck in the one position..

If manual switching it is possible that the cable came loose or broke from the handle to the valve.

if electronic 99% of them are done by vacuum and if the vac hose broke or the electronic switching valve failed this can cause this also..

as for the frost.. this is tough... I don't think the frost on the inside is due mainly to the failed switch however it is possible you have a heater core leak or one of the lines has leaked and it is letting coolant/moisture in and this is causing the frost..

Next time u go in your car check both of your floor mats (BEFORE YOU GET IN) and see if they are wet or have ANY moisture on them... if so (nomally the passenger side) then u probably have a heater core leak and that needs to be attended to.

If this is not a problem then I would check all of your windows, moon roof if you have it and make sure they are all closed... If so.. take your car through a powerfull car wash OR if u do it yourself run a hose or a car wash sprayer over all the seals on the doors, moon roof, back and front window and see if any water gets in... if so a bad seal can cause this too.

GOOD luck keep us updated!

Yeah, it's manual, most fords/mazdas do you HVAC but I havnt looked into it. It does change where the PRIMARY air flow goes, but reguardless of where it's set it still leaks out of the other two areas. I was more so wondering if anyone else had this issue and if they had it fixed.

I've never had frost on the inside of the windows, but you always get a bit of ambient airflow regardless of fan speed/vent location it seems.

If the car's under warranty, I'd take it to the dealer. If you don't like Gorno, Sesi and Thayer are close. I've had bad luck with Gorno sales, but good luck with their service dept.

Another simple, but possible solution would be dirty windows. particles will attract moisture, so maybe hitting your windows with some Invisible Glass would help.

not just a heater core.. your drain could be blocked as well causing that. but being in the service dept. you prob have a bad actuator or a mode door that isn't working properly. if under warranty i'd take it in. if not just wait fot it to fail completely then take action

This is what I assumed, I thought maybe the door wasnt being shut properly when I change the location of flow. Like I said, it does change the MAJORITY of the airflow at high fan speed. But the ammount that flows from the defrost/vents is way more than normal. It's enough flow that with the AC on my front window fogs on the outside in the summer after it's been on for abour 5 mins. REALLY ANNOYING.

As far as my Warranty, im over by about 7k. So not sure if they would cover it. Im making an appt for friday for my oil change I guess I'll talk to gorno then.

So what ever came of this? Did they check your HVAC system at all?

I did notice when the temps were really low, I saw some frost on the insides of my windows, but I suspect that it might be the excess moisture that was laying on my floor mats that somehow made it on the windows.

When I took it to Gorno, the Mazda Tech went home, but the guy who works the counter Aaron said he hasnt seen anything like that before. The motor seems to be find, We both think it might be the door not sealing properly, but as always not sure. He said he would ask the Mazda Tech and we can see about improving for a good faith adjustment. Havnt had time to bring it back up there yet. I did locate the motor myself and everything seems to move properly, so I assume it must be the door.
